Zen is fine. Besides obvious association with Buddhism, it was also name of one of the AIs from Blake's Seven. Other electronic protagonist was Orac.

Other choice might be Fu Ckup - to lower public expectations before first tests etc.

I would not launch with Zen or use older chip names, at least not as a blanket branding for the new chips. I would also use something that would allow for a much simpler naming system and also differentiates better between CPU's and APU's.

I think AMD could and probably need to make much better use of the APU term. The high end Zen chips with Polaris graphics will raise the performance bar of the discrete market, probably to mid range GPU performance levels and I think it would be wise for AMD to show the value of the APU and market the crap out the fact. Maybe AMD could use Zen as tag on branding for the APU line and drop it for the performance CPU range.

If I was in charge I would go with something completely new. Something simple that translates well and reflects what AMD want to offer.

Maybe AMD should take Coke and popcorn and rewatch Terminators, at least first one or two parts.

I remember seing Miles Dyson working on something that resembled cluster of Transputer nodes.

Since Zen is all about power efficiency, many cores, GPU computing, coherent busses, 3D desing etc etc, maybe something from that franchise ?

Maybe Z-1000 as a first building brick for T-1000 ?
