Sorry about Bulldozer... Version 1.0
Sorry about Bulldozer... Version 1.0
"Bruce", after Bruce Lee. They could have a Bruce Lee lookalike in a AMD tee destroying an Intel chip with the caption, "They call me Bruce!". ;p
Zentium, but only because I find it funny.
Zen is a perfectly fine name, they just need to stop filling in chips here there and everywhere, oh look a 1% better transistor lets release it and call it xyz or whatever, pretty much same performance as one it will be replacing but it also makes it OMG to try to remember or research all those various chips/cards and when they finally do decide on calling it something actually quite cool, they end up butchering the performance. Love AMD out of the big 3 (Intel, AMD, Nvidia) but honestly they all have to figure out a naming system that works and stick with it over the long run, even core i chips, what are they going to do when hit say the 7k or higher range, they going to keep going example Core i7 18400k lol.
For AMD should be as such to make simple and easy which they started to do then got all mucked up
Sempron-Duron(Sempron perfect name for lowest end)
Athlon II maybe replace this with something a little more oomph to show more difference between this and the lowest end
Phenom is an awesome name IMO so should be Phenom for the high end, and the FX for pinnacle and HAS TO BE BEST not this some A series chips will actually end up being faster in some cases)
even much of the A-B eiou or whatever naming AMD has for APU is screwy lol, they just start with numbers then run out because not want to get mixed with competition, so why not market them with the core or codename or whatever as well and not have to recycle new naming sequences ever few years.
so because long post
Sempron-Duron
Athlon (family name) Zen instead of 2-3-4 or whatever could be Zen x2 x4 EX Si or whatever
Phenom
Phenom FX this is the top of the top they make, the way those twkr chips, FX in general, bulldozer, phenom
were all supposed to be, so in my mind, something like those FX9k chips would be placed here BUT would not be just a binning, it might be something like Radeon 4890 was to 4870, much more refined with more under the hood, so it could end up being a very high clock chip with ultra low leakage or extra fancy special chips akin to say what a Titan was when released, or akin to Intel top end premium Extreme Edition type deal.
hope was not to all over the place to understand.
Revenite I like that, and could branch a whole new slew of code names for them based on a similar sounding to me such as Reaper, Wrath, Cerebus, Demonicles etc.
Athlon is a great name, they need another that has a similar thump, and having a dark or deep thinking type name that awakens inspiration or whatever would be a great thing to have.
But that would be way to go, there are literally millions of awesome words or play on wording to come up with much better then the numbering sequence crap always being used lol.
Does it matter? Names don't make the products.
I have a personal refusal on buying AMD now. There's been 2-3 times where support of a certain unnamed Operating System was so bad that I ended up either throwing it away or giving it away to someone.
As for Intel fans buying Intel, I think some only do it because its been the safest option for a long time. I'd love nothing more than to dump Intel for a capable ARM CPU, but when's that going to happen?
To flatter intel they should make 3 flavours, the Z3, Z5 and the Z7.
I presume that refusal is down to graphics cards? That's a different and complicated argument compared with CPUs where the AMD CPUs just work.
But graphics cards? If you want to play games, then Nvidia is still the best option with their closed source driver. There still is no open source driver for recent cards, Nvidia's need to sort that attitude out.
Intel being safe though, I hear that a lot and it is so misguided I just find it sad.

Uberon - job done let's go home.
Zeppelin? As in Le(a)d Zeppelin? I think not.
As others have so eloquently stated before me, keep using Zen or a slight derivative thereof. People know it, it's easy to pronounce and it sounds kind of cool. Should be fine ...as long as it doesn't offend any buddhist.
Stick with Zen, its not hard to say. Maybe have Zen FX for the enthuisaist end.
Have AMD sponsored this QOTW for some cheap marketing insights?
Doodlebug, runs out of juice and comes crashing down to earth. Likely leaving your house in flames.
Regardless of what we would like them called......I fully expect them to be "FX" plus some numbers.....

I think they should call it Zen "Imagine"... Engineers who worked hard has given freedom ...Imagine what this new architecture can do.
