AMD GPU roadmap shows Polaris will be followed by Vega and Navi

Vega fully embraces HBM2 in 2017 and Navi touts scalability and next gen memory in 2018.

Re: AMD GPU roadmap shows Polaris will be followed by Vega and Navi

I guess that Vega is 14nm as well, so it presumably gets its improve perf/W up by running things slower than Polaris (but having more shaders), hopefully at the sweet point in the power consumption curve (a bit like Fury Nano).

Which also indicates that AMD aren't going to hold back on clock speeds on the Polaris chips, at least in the top end SKUs.

I think the main perf/W increase in Vega will come from HBM2, that'll allow them to run faster speeds than Polaris since they'll be less constrained by mem bandwidth too.

Vega and Navi are tier 2 at best, get back to me once they reach the quality of Secret or even Liquid.

I wonder which AMD GPU will power the next version of playstation and Xbox........cant wait!! maybe 12 gigs of HBM2, CPU with 8 core 16 threads!! VR ready with graphics of epic proportions.

Looking at this then, it seems like it'd be better to skip Polaris and wait for Vega for the HBM2 goodness.

Ah but then better to skip Vega and wait for Navi for the HBM3 goodness

I would be delighted with a value for money, small die, energy efficient, chip with decent memory compression and 4GB HBM1 VRAM.

    GDDR5 it appears.

Re: AMD GPU roadmap shows Polaris will be followed by Vega and Navi

Apparently during the chat somebody had asked whether people would have to wait until Vega for a higher performing chip than Polaris 10 and 11,and it was said AMD would be showing a higher performing chip later.

So that means another higher end chip is coming out in the Polaris family?? Can Hexus confirm this as I only watched part of the Stream myself so cannot verify it.

Yeah, would be a nice fit to replace my mini-ITX GTX960!

Re: AMD GPU roadmap shows Polaris will be followed by Vega and Navi

There was part of an answer talking about the Polaris numbering scheme - saying the numbers are purely chronological, not performance based. I think the example was given of a higher performing chip released later having the number Polaris 12, simply because it's the next one after 11, even though 11 is the smaller chip. I need to check, but it was one of those statements that sends a bit of a message/hint without actually being a commitment - ie they might not, but they might be hinting before they're allowed to sort of thing.

Re: AMD GPU roadmap shows Polaris will be followed by Vega and Navi

So Polaris will use GDDR5, GDDRX and HBM and Vega just HBM2?

What is the next gen memory with Navi?
