Still trying to figure out why certain CPUs need too be treated differently!
When i bought my copy of Windows 7 Microsoft promised me they would provide security related updates until January 2020, they didn't tell me that wouldn't included important, moderate, or low severity rated security updates on newer hardware, what ever way they cut it i feel like Microsoft have once again lied to customers.
I thought drivers are provided by Intel or the motherboard manufacturer. How does Microsoft fit in ? ( confused )
They made deals with AMD and Intel to basically not bother about support moving forward for old OS versions.
To be frank its ****in shocking that they are allowed to get away with it, what did MS think was going to happen after the debacle that Vista caused to refreshment cycles. Everyone has just really got onto Win 7 now.
I think MS are scared that companies will stick with the 'settled and safe' mind set that XP gave a lot of people but now with Win 7 and this is why their hard cutting the life supply rope.
I can see two things.. no three thinks happening if government/regulators don't nosey in.
1. Everyone accepts and starts migration paths to be ready for the move with the hardware change from 2018 onwards. (MS win)
2. Large Business start hammering the likes of HP, Lenovo for guarantees on existing CPU/Chipsets compatible with Win7/8 creating a massive and going to be expensive demand (CPU/Suppler win)
3. Well this is likely but highly likely to be private, you have the likes of the US government/banking cut deals for custom wrote drivers as they are some of the stickiest of clients to get of platforms as they have large stupid costing custom contracts with the likes of MS.
I was recently placing using my pc, when it rebooted and began updating to Windows 10 and wouldnt give me any other option.
After a long while, I chose to revert back to my excisting / previous 8.1.
After an even longer wait (2hours overall I was without my system) I was finally back on 8.1.
Now I have a huge popup on screen which I cannot get rid of.
I have followed all help online, but the Windows update is worse than a virus / malware.
I am disgusted with Microsoft (I was originally considering 10, not now)
Their business model has been threatened by Android, IOS and now potentially Steam OS / Linux. In an attempt to adopt this freemium business model, Microsoft have place all of their eggs in one basket and are attemoting to force everyone onto Windows 10, as they are inable to compete realistically.
Yeah that is another option, bit more fraught with dangers in the event of hardware failures. I would take money on getting the parts to keep those pcs going will be gougingly expensive
No plans to use Windows 10 other than when I must; do have plans to use Linux more.
