So.... can I play Crysis with this, then?
Re: Nvidia Quadro M6000 updated with 24GB GDDR5
"10x performance boost"
What were they using before? Intel HD graphics?
Re: Nvidia Quadro M6000 updated with 24GB GDDR5
Not sure if you really want Sony Pictures to promote your product these days <_<

obviously not worked with realtime 3D... basically they can now access more of the file from gpu memory rather than system ram and page files. Having more GPU memory can make a HUGE difference to performance because it allows more of the scene to be natively stored on the gpu and as such can process the data faster.
In regards to the card.... the fact they can keep the price the same as the old 12GB version just shows the stupidly high markup that these get over the titan x which was basically the same card at 12GB. DO I like the idea of a gpu with 24GB memory, you bet I do but I'm not sure I actually need it lol

Probably a TI calculator...

LOL that went way over your head. He was making a joke that they said it gave them 10x the performance boost with no reference to what the "10x boost" was comparing to.
Re: Nvidia Quadro M6000 updated with 24GB GDDR5
Do want. Having to render scenes on my CPU because my 980 only has 4GB... Painful. Still, beggars can't be choosers, and I'll soldier on until I need to make the investment!

you're making the assumption he was 'making a joke'. Anybody with an ounce of pc knowledge knows these products aren't aimed at consumers so would be comparing to similar items rather than a bottom of the line consumer gpu that wouldn't even be able run the program properly let alone anything else :o.

Whoosh! That was the sound of it going over your head.
He was definitely making a joke. Let's laugh and move on.

Are you sure? That I didn't get my hands on a M6000 24GB and a whole load of other GPUs and iGPUs, proceed to arbitrarily benchmark them, then decide that I'd pick an Intel HD as the sole comparison because I found it was exactly 10x slower? While neglecting the fact that the two products are in different market segments?
Shirley, I wouldn't poke fun at an egregious marketing statement?

a joke has to be funny.... at best his post was being pedantic, it wasn't funny, it's not even at 'can it run crysis' level. The people/companies this slide was aimed at wouldn't even be thinking about a consumer gpu so personally I'd like to think it was lack of experience in the field these are aimed at rather than just being stupid.

And just WHAT is wrong with my Crysis joke exactly, Mister LSG, hmm?
I think y'all will find Erik Strauss is presenting to non-tech types, for whom '10x' or '10X' is merely a buzzword. He isn't making a joke, he's either using a figure of speech ("this is like, ten times faster, dude") or presenting something so the Mgmt can understand why they need almost half a million Dollars worth of brand new $5k GPUs.
From an Nvidia advert, the new card has:
2x Memory Capacity
5x Render Performance
Management likely see that as 2x5=10, so 10x.
Re: Nvidia Quadro M6000 updated with 24GB GDDR5
nowadays everyone knows adding more GDDR RAM reaches a point of diminishing returns, its a good idea to have 24 Gigs but give us benchmarks on the 12Gig card then we will know! Most of these companies use render farms to do the rendering work instead of investing 5000 on a single card.
