Are the angular looking designs and their associated model numbers real or fakery?

If you're going to announce at GTC then it's always nice to have a pretty model to wave around. You wouldn't use CNC on production cards I expect.

I'm sure I saw somewhere that Nvidia were calling this product series something else...
Edit: Found it. Some are calling it the X80/X70.

it's funny..atleast to me because of the naming.lol.
1080GTX can push out 4k
while the PS4 can only deliver 1080p

Perhaps XFX will start doing Nvidia cards again, then we can have an XFX GTX X80 XXX edition.

1080P on crappy games with medium quality, on AAA games it is 900p on medium quality.

If ever I have to specify which GPU I have to someone, they will know which one I mean if I say 780, 290X, Titan, 980Ti, etc... I don't need to specify Nvidia GTX... Moreover, most of them will know FAR more about the thing than me anyway!!

Maybe it will be GTX80.
That would make sense.

Re: Pictures of Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080, 1070 cooler shrouds leak
At this point in time, after so many changes in nomenclature, its clear that there is no-one working for any companies capable of creating a scheme that is scalable and understandable. It seems the best way to 'make sense' is to make no sense at all but claim that its a, 'new fresh system that is easily distinguishable between market segments' regardless.

Performance numbers haven't been released and the ps4 is a complete system that costs, a fraction of what the nvidia gpu will most likely cost...

Re: Pictures of Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080, 1070 cooler shrouds leak
Kinda surprised they went with the 10xx series, would've thought it was time to change to a more long term naming convention but ah well.
As for the comments about them being called the X70 and X80 earlier, while roman numerals are a possibility there, I personally find it more likely people were using the X as a placeholder, assuming Nvidia would stick to the 50-80 convention but not knowing if we would get 10 or a restart, may well be numerals though.
I find it pretty unlikely we'd get a leak of the shroud, the most easily fakeable part of the card, before any more significant leaks. May well be legit, but as someone pointed out, this would be a relatively easy 3d print job.
Who knows though, hopefully we get some more solid information soon, deciding whether to bag a cheap 970 on or right before the next release, or whether to grab the new x70 card. That said, if that news the other day suggesting the 10 series may be GDDR5X rather than HBM, may skip this gen too.

Indeed, what are they going to do when they run our of numbers. ;) :D
