Re: AMD announces 7th Generation A-Series Processors
not convinced - notebook availability will be low and will it even come to desktop? Carrizo didn't.
Re: AMD announces 7th Generation A-Series Processors
Bristol Ridge should arrive on the desktop in the AM4 slot, if I recall the roadmap correctly. I'm certainly waiting for that. For laptops I might have bought one if it was in a laptop around the 12" size, but I'm guessing we won't see that, so I'll probably end up with a Dell XPS 13.

I expect it would happen eventually, but it looks like HP are using this in a new 15" version of the Envy 360 :(

As is always the case. AMD build a CPU with moderate gaming power and good enough CPU power for daily tasks all within a healthy power usage budget that\'s perfect for netbook size devices... and HP stick it in a massive laptop with a 1366x768 screen :(

Right. I\'m still occasionally using my Thinkpad X120e with an E-350 CPU, and while it\'s not a perfect machine, I won\'t mind replacing it with a similar laptop with a Bristol Ridge APU. For ~$400 I\'d even make do with the same low res screen and a dual core APU.
Still, where I really want one is in my HTPC, where I know it won\'t be crippled by low power requirements and single channel RAM. The A10-7860K appeals to me but FM2+ doesn\'t, so I\'m hoping that AM4 Bristol Ridge chips won\'t be far behind their mobile brethren.
Re: AMD announces 7th Generation A-Series Processors
any AMD APU from the Kaveri era is better in graphics performance than any intel HD graphics product below the expensive iris-pro range. With AMD you get a sub $400 laptop performing equally in graphics with a $800 laptop with intel iris-Pro.
Re: AMD announces 7th Generation A-Series Processors
DDR4 is something the iGPU needs - AMD APU show linear scaling with ram speed so it needs bandwidth

I think we have discussed this before, I have the same laptop and mine is in a box unused these days as it fell apart :D

Reading some more, the x360 will be FHD with optional UHD, so at least it could be a laptop worth buying for those who want that form factor.

It's just a shame we can't get that kind of specification running through all laptops now. My click mini is 1920x1200 on an 8.9" screen and looks amazing. FHD on a 13" device should be relatively trivial, look good, and for desktop, browsing, and even casual gaming entry level AMD and Intel IGPs are more than adequate nowadays (as evidenced by my aforementioned bay trail tablet having no problems running Gems of War at native res ;) ).
My last laptop (still going strong) is a 15" only because there was nothing at all worth buying at ~ 13" and reasonably priced. And I'm sure I can't be that unusual as a tech customer, can I...?

Certainly an improvement but I wouldn't have thought the market for large laptops is particuarly deep these days. I really want to see it in a 'Surface' type flagship device, as I'm sure AMD do too.

It can come with 4K display and dancing girls, I won't care as I no longer consider 15" to be a portable device so to me it just isn't a product ;)
My laptop was the HP version of an E350 design, with an 11.6" display. I want something similar, just slimmer bezel so either smaller overall or I would wear a 13" display in the same sized chassis. Machines like that seem to exist, but with 1GHz single core CPUs so a downgrade from what I am already starting to find a bit slow with modern software. ISTR the TDP on the E350 was 17W, by modern standards that is pretty hot so we should be able to get something pretty awesome for E350 sort of money.
Re: AMD announces 7th Generation A-Series Processors
It will be interesting to see how much stronger the graphics have become on these chips.

It will, they seem to have improved things for laptops.

Desktop would be more interesting for me, and CPU performance more interesting than that.
Re: AMD announces 7th Generation A-Series Processors
Hopefully the desktop versions and AM4 get announced soon.
