Are manufacturers still starting with desktop launches then scaling down to laptops months later? Not sure if my current laptop will last another year, but I am also curious how close nVidia's will come to it's claims.

I don't think we know anything about what form factor they'll launch yet. AMDs polaris 11 is openly targeting high power efficiency so I would be surprised if it wasn't in a laptop product quite soon, and there's a third nVidia card code that we aren't sure what product it represents - the Hexus article suggested it was a 980 ti replacement, but I think there's a possibility it's a mobile focused part.

But laptop integration takes a little while longer than selling an add-in board.
