Display refresh rate is a major contributor to latency in current virtual reality HMDs.

Nice! A new phrase for my buzzword bingo: "Zero latency"

Please would someone explain, in Layman's terms, what happened in that video? My simple little mind is baffled.

The display is mounted on a rail so it can move left/right. They place four pieces of paper on it. Then they zoom in an show the Nvidia logo displayed in the centre. They move the display left and right very quickly (the paper is just there to highlight this as the surface is black) and they update the position of the logo so it remains in the centre, cancelling the left/right motion.

And the rail is wired up for ultra-fast movement tracking.

They don't explain why the cards still can't perform async compute though. You have more important things to work on Nvidia! Like that great big green chunk of latency.

Because nobody's actually using it yet.

Wrong.

Well you can buy and play games today that use it, but perhaps you mean in some other sense? It's not mandatory, certainly, just a boost.

Seems to be quite a significant boost in Hitman. Even in Ashes of the Singularity it is very noticeable. Definitely an important feature.

17ms delay from the GPU. 1ms from an OLED screen. Lets focus on 1700Hz screens and call them HurtzWorks™

Re: Nvidia demonstrates 1,700Hz refresh 'Zero Latency Display'
'Zero Latency Display' - says 2 of 18 people surveyed. It sounds like a beauty advert.

Re: Nvidia demonstrates 1,700Hz refresh 'Zero Latency Display'
Why would Nvidia focus on the second smallest area of latency when it's own GPU is the overwhelming problem...
Nvidia haven't worked on the asynchronous compute problems with Pascal have they?

Re: Nvidia demonstrates 1,700Hz refresh 'Zero Latency Display'
I bet if they released it, it would be a pound for every hz.

wow that is pretty incredible, years before we see somthing like this for the avg consumer right?
