Carrera Computers enter in to administration

We have had several reports in today about a UK system builder, Digital Network plc., which trades several different name including Demonite, Order247 and Carrera-SSC. On Thursday last week the company entered in to administration and a formal statement will be made tomorrow.

My sharp tft monitor is covered on site by sharp themselves not carreras warrenty so there is no problem there.

Hopefully there wont be any problems with the warrenty as they mine is for 5 years (3 onsite 2 return to base) but hopefully it wont go wrong either.

My in-laws just got a PC from them (the mother-in-law insisted she wanted a guarantee & warranty, otherwise i'd have built them one). They've had quite a few probs with it so far, tho it has to be said they were no reflection on Carerra's good build quality. S'pose this b0rks their warranty now.

    ...

oh dear my heart bleeds. Although my PC that I bought was good value, getting an accurate delivery date was a pain, they added a delivery charge on even though it was from a PC magazine 'labs' that was supposed to have delivery included, and although it worked fine for 6 months there were alot of problems after that, all of which I ended up fixing myself because I spent several hours (seriously - longest wait 50+minutes) on hold to customer services. I was actually told by a person on the switchboard that there was only one person on the technical department phones, which if true is shocking.

When I mentioned that in a review of Carrera on Romulus, I was threatened with legal action

So all in all Im not too saddened by their demise.

BTW, the five year warrenty is labour only after one year Im afraid. The separate warrenty they used to use (Repairline) parted company with Carrera 6 months ago, there is an enlightening post regarding this on romulus:

"I worked for Repair-LIne Ltd , left due to seeing the same old Pcs day in dat out with the same old faults, guess the supplier?? you got it Carrera.
Repair-LIne dont support the Pcs for them anymore if I wasn't going on a 2 month trip round OZ I would ask for my job back now, they where a good company. Just a shame they supported some terrible Pcs.
    Oztracker

Also, doubt they actually have anyonsite support now so check before you buy as it will be a feature you will definitely need!!!"

    Armari as well.

I don't live far from carrera so hopefully I'll be able to pick up some stuff dirt cheap from their shop!

There are still quite a few people around. I've bought various components from CCL Computers (never bought a system though - I much prefer to build my own). They do have some systems available to order here:

The Carrera and Demonite brands will be sold to some today like they have done in the past. We will see how it all pans out. I am sure we will continue to see their brand avaliable.

    Carrera Update

I dont think there is any stock there at all. I believe all the stock was sold to a company called wildfire developments - owned by nick smith, on Decemeber the 28th.

There are currently negotiations going on with the administrator to guarantee at least some form of warranty to existing customers. I dont think it will include 24 hour support, and there may be an additional charge for full on-site, but it will be ad heavily subsidised prices.

It is a shame carrera closed up, in all my dealings with them they where a good bunch. However I think they may be the first of many to go. Already a number of distributors are laying off staff, and SPD Distribution of Alton went bust last week.

Anyone know why they happened to go bust?

My first PC was from Fox computers they were doing really well and had a
turn over of several million a year. They moved to new bigger premices and
went bankrupt within less than a year.

    Thumbs down

I recently purchased a pc from Carerra, which is fine and actually turned up early! However they provided a temporary graphics card, which is a downgrade from the part I specified. I was told the day it arrived when I checked the tower carrera would replace the graphics card by courier nearly two weeks ago. Apparently the dispatches have been stopped (why?) so I'll not be getting what’s owed to me any time soon; no ETA?. I don't see why they can't amend my order if they have my part in stock which I was told is in stock.

If I'd ordered my pc a week or so later I dread to think what situation I would be in right now!

If they can't arrange for the card to be swapped will they be able to refund the difference to me?... probably not.

The last vague promise was to forward on my details on to someone else to see what they could do, who? wtf .
