I think we predicted as much on these forums. Great wins for AMD, similar to the story with their first 28nm chips.
Nintendo have this then with the NX - 8GB of DDR4 for a start
I think AMD's Apple wins were a given, although Apple now only put discrete GPUs in the higher end products within each range so the quantity might not be as high as it would otherwise seem.
I'm doubting the PS4K rumour.
GiantBomb is the source of the PS4K info, just be rehashed via other sites and Techpowerup guessing it's a new GPU.
It may not be, a tweaked Radeon HD 79xx could be in the same range and also maintains absolute compatibility with PS4.
Sony API's are very bare to the metal, the change in architecture to Polaris may or may not be an issue.
Hehe. It's a good point about compatibility. If they're that close to the metal then they'd have to stick to GCN1.0 cards, but maybe polaris has a superset so calling as per GCN1.0 works at least as quickly. I can't quite see AMD putting out just a die shrink version of 7870 and ignoring their improvements in subsequent GCN versions, especially the mem compression stuff.
Considering a few years back apple had issues with nvidia GPUs, no wonder they start looking for alternatives. :D
finally Nvidia will loose market share. #RedTeam
Apple WWDC 2016 has just been announced for 13th June in San Francisco. Will we see its first Polaris GPU equipped computers on stage?
Well, I hope they will shows (Apple) new Macbook pro's with new AMD mGPUs.
I hope it will be some powerfull one, otherwise, I will go back to Windows again to have some mGPU powerfull as GTX 980m but in thin chasis (~ 20mm ). At the moment I have PC and Macbook, and it is pain in the ... so hope to have one to rule them all.
I hope the upcoming Polaris will shake APPLE's mindset to give us back our PowerMac- the real PowerMac we used to know.
The PS4k seems a little optimistic - 2304 processors is less than a 390. PS1080 doesn't have the same ring to it either
