Not to be unexpected but is a little odd though how Microsoft has been deploying Cortana on every other platform. I just hope that the Bing Search stops trying to show me an interactive map of Madagascar when I search for a Firewall xD
One of the first things I disable anyway.
hey cortana how do i disable bing
as long as it doesn't mess with my choice of using firefox and google I don't mind.
Cortana is their app and they can make their app work with whatever they thing it works best.
However I do really believe bing is lagging far behind in search results. The main server in my job mistakenly blocked access to google once and I tried to search for a shop in yahoo and bing, the return results was just 3 and none of those was the shop I was looking.
Once the IT guy fixed the problem and googled that shop I got it in the first 5 results plus suggestions of similar shops.
When is the first album out??
Despite really liking Windows 10 I don't think I've ever used Cortana, and I can't see this change making it more appealing to me - unless they can actually carry through on the vouchers/coupons for online stores pulled up through Cortana/Bing. Because yes, I am that mercenary - if they'll effectively pay me for using Cortana and it does what I wanted anyway, why not ;)
Is that guy over there building a wall in our garden?
Wish there was a simple "Stop Cortana" running button...........
There goes Cortana's limited popularity out the window... Literally.
How long before Windows11 comes out?
I don't mind Bing personally (don't use it, but I've had no complaints when I have), but it's banned at work (school, and the local authority restrict it) so this effectively renders Cortana completely useless in such an environment if other organisations also restrict Bing.
I didn't use Cortana either mind, but I'm sure some find it useful. :)
Um.. didn't they learn from the last time the EU slapped them with a fine for 'bundling' IE into the OS.
Forcing me to use bing and edge via cortana definitely isn't making me want to use cortana OR edge browser.... bing never seems to find what I'm looking for anyway so I might as well just go straight to firefox and search like normal, I'm sure I can wait all of 1-2 seconds for it to load lol
When did MS last let trivial details, like user wishes or competition laws, get in the way of their dreams of world dominati.... sorry, a 'fulfilling user experience'?
Personally, Cortana is one (but far from the only) of the things that rendered W10 of zero interest or use to me and any possibility of me using W10 was utterly dependent on being able to totally disable it, and being 100% certain it was off, dead, defunct removef, and not just running silently and listening, then I guess this is a good thing for me, as I don't use bing and have no interest in edge either. Sadly, it's still far too little, and certainly far too late, though.
I couldn't bring myself to use a search engine called 'Bing' anyway (to me a Bing it\'s an annoying an intrusive warning noise - so perhaps it is appropriate! And I don\'t find any voice assistant particularly helpful, useful, or give much assistance. But as I\'ve pretty much moved away from Windows anyway - it\'s of little concern.
I might not go that far but the simple reality is that I like Chrome and google, that is what I use for me default, it is not for MS to tell me that is wrong -sorry but "fulling user experience" is what I want it to be not what MS thinks it should be.
This is an EU competition complaint waiting to happen, although given the eu track record they will start an investigation around 2023
