1070 should support tri and quad SLI no problem. Only the 1080 can't because it needs two SLI bridges per link.

    Don't think so.
DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 has 32.4 Gbit/s signal rate and it can only handle 8K at 60Hz and that only when running at Chroma 4:2:0. HDMI 2.0 only has 18 Gbit/s and 4K at 60Hz. Currently no standard can handle 8K @ 120Hz:

if superMHL supports 8k at 120hz how comes it passes through a HDMI 2.0 port?

Digital copyright takes a bite out of the available bandwidth too.

Powering 5K is a big enough task never mind 8K.

Hmmmm, so 290 performance at 150w would mean its effectively AMD's 970 but at a presumably lower pricepoint. In fairness the 970 is probably plenty powerful currently, so thats a good offering from AMD for the mainstream market.

But Nvidia definitely win on performance until Vega. 970 at a mainstream price is a good deal though.

Which polaris variant? Is that the full one (XT) or is it the cut down (pro)?

It says these supposed spec's could be for the mobile chips. I'm not seeing anything definitive in this TBH.

The source article on techpowerup can be found here: https://www.techpowerup.com/222450/m...tions-revealed

It's not that much clearer than the oc3d article to be fair, but atleast its the source as opposed to a reintepretation of it.

I mean the techpowerup article is the original "source" which oc3d then reinterpreted. techpowerup itself just says "industry sources" anyway, but atleast its 2nd party info as opposed to 3rd.

Ye indeed. "Industry sources" is pretty much akin to some random guy on a forum in how it gets published these days apparently. Wouldn't be half bad if their "mainstream" offering is an AMD 970, but better to just wait for some official info really. These rumours are a dime a dozen at this point, to the point where the companies themselves "leak" info for marketing purposes, but we'll see what happens soon I guess. Presumably if that techpowerup article is true, we'll know when AMD run their event at the end of the month.

Who knows, maybe these are AMD laptop chips. That would back up the other unknown source saying/claiming cards would run 850Mhz clock speed.

Re: AMD Vega launch brought forward to October, says report

All previous reports were saying that 480X will give same performance as 980tits (and there were benchmarks to prove 480X had scores almost same as 980tits). Now these 'professional reviewers' are saying 480X has same performance as 390X BUT it uses half the power. I think these folks are getting their wires crossed. A recent article by WCCFTECH stated that the mobile version of 480X will give same performance as 390X. I think the actual pc based 480X gpu will give similar performance as 980tits.
