Re: AMD Vega launch brought forward to October, says report
I made an audible gasp when seeing this headline.
Sadly, just a rumour* for now, but I hope it's true!
*some bloke in the forum saying 'they heard that..' Not really Hexus reporting material... imagine what would make the headlines if that were the case for everything!

Who is the winner? The consumer!

Re: AMD Vega launch brought forward to October, says report
Mark - I'm beginning to see a pattern in your posts along with a 'green' bias...
You could easily interpret the slide AMD presented at CAPSAICIN VEGA being launched in Q4 '2016. When did AMD mention this "move" the launch of VEGA? They may well have planned this. Everything I've seen so far from AMD suggest a very tactical launch or a strategic show of cards.
HEX, in my opinion, is losing credibility in reporting.

This could get interesting if true...

To be fair, I see nothing of any green bias.

But this I agree with a little tiny bit, if someone saying 'I heard that.. ' with no evidence on a forum is considered a report worthy of Hexus' very valuable articles.
But this will generate clicks no doubt, so I'm not against Hexus saying something, but perhaps it could be titled in a way that makes it really clear that Hexus are rumour repeating/collating - if phrased like 'Another rumour: Vega Launch in October?!' with the article asking for discussion then it'd both be much more credible, but help generate discussion and more ad hits for the forum.

Re: AMD Vega launch brought forward to October, says report
just wish they'd hurry up and mention the dates and costs of the more affordable range for my new Skylake build as the old HD6950 wont cut it any more and Forza wont allow me to even download it :-(

Re: AMD Vega launch brought forward to October, says report
Had my hopes up there, should\'ve expected it given the coverage basis lately.
Still, if this turns out to be true I will be very happy, and will actually hold off the few extra months to get HBM2 on Vega as opposed to buying a 1070. That said, I\'ll wait until we have a more credible source than some random bloke on the forum who heard it in a pub.

POLARIS 10 & 11- no GDDR5-X ???? argghhhhh!

Re: AMD Vega launch brought forward to October, says report
I have noticed that Nvidia will produce GP106 cards of the 1280 CUDA block range with only 128 bit memory interface compared to AMD Polaris 10 with 256 bit which will be an overkill to the GP106 at high FPS, QHD and UHD.

I wonder if there isn't a huge difference in performance between 256bit + GDDR5 and 128bit + GDDR5X, as GDDR5X can essentially double bandwidth over GDDR5.

NB. GDDR5X also runs very hot... It's considered a 'stop gap' until HBM2 arrives later this year/2017. AMD co-developed HBM.

But the current chips are only what, 25% more bandwidth compared to GDDR5 if 1080 is correct? (10Gbps vs 8).

They basically just doubled the bandwidth/prefetch-size while reducing the dimensions of the chip. So I guess they wanted to avoid creating another "Thermi".
