The nvidia tablets have just been such a nightmare for everyone involved.

I've not had any problems and now I have two shields thanks to Nvidia's generous recall. My only gripe is not being able to use the controller if i'm out and about because it requires wifi to function

Love my K1, but please Nvidia, fix the power (in particular) and volume buttons - they are abysmal, and that's not an over-reaction.

Shame. I want a newer Shield Portable with a slightly bigger screen than the original.

I would love it only if it comes with Windows 10, an intel processor and OLED screen.

You were luck then. I bought one of the launch ones that had cracks forming which no reviewer mentioned at all. They recalled it but the replacement had backlight bleed and 5ghz wifi never worked on any of the ones I had.

That is unlucky, I don't think reviewers ever have devices long enough for faults to develop sadly. How do you know if the 5ghz is working ? I always just assumed it was working fine.

The connection was always unstable netflix was always #### etc. I remember seeing it in a patch notes a long time after I got rid of it.

Ditto. Or even just release the Shield Portable here. A 'gaming' device that has no physical inputs (or requires you to carry a table around to put the tablet on because the controller doesn't solidly attach) is just silly.

Shame there's no trade in deal, as the thought of an improved model with the X1 is quite appealing.

I got one of the post-recall ones and it's been pretty good, it's my go to device for playing PvZ2, Bejeweled Stars, etc. And I've even used as a terminal into RPi and other headless servers. It does exactly what I need of it and gets updates, so no complaints here.

Totally and utterly disagree, if you want a Windows tablet then buy one! Shield is pretty focused on Android gaming. OLED might be nice, but not if that hikes the price appreciably. And I can't really see NVidia choosing the competition (Intel) over their own kit, can you? (And before you accuse me of Intel hate, I've got an Intel powered Lenovo Android tablet as my main unit and it's pretty good).

And don't get me started on Windows 10, after the issues I'm having trying to get that nasty piece of manure reinstalled after it corrupted itself, I can probably give Saracen a run for his money on W10 hatred. So W10 on a gaming tablet? Absolutely, positively no thanks!

Yep, my daughter wanted a tablet for her birthday and it came down to a Shield vs Asus Transformer. The Transformer just won, the keyboard is handy and it can run proper Minecraft which at her age is important. Both were the same price, so you have a choice.
