Lesson I learned years ago, don't buy 1st release technical equipment, wait until all the faults have been ironed out and the prices level to more reasonable bases!
Latest tech always carries a price premium! If you have more money than brain cells go ahead sucker, it's like taking candy from a baby lol! Or as someone previously said " A fool and his money are easily parted"

Re: QOTW: Would you pay extra for a GTX 1080 Founders Edition?

    Nope.

On one hand I understand why Nvidia is offering Founders cards. I've ran into this with previous cards when I only buy one... then want to put it in a Crossfire or SLI rig later on and nothing available is a clock for clock / memory for memory match. While Nvidia and AMD have improved their DX/OpenGL multi-card support over the years to make this a non-issue; and while Vulkan makes this a non-issue at the API level; knowing that an exact matching version of a card I buy now would still be available 2 or 3 years from now would be a huge selling point. It just is not worth the price premium Nvidia is asking for on their cards.

at $699 its far cheaper, faster and efficient than the TitanX and many other Quadro cards out there, am in need for a number crunching card at this very moment but I would definitely not get one, the $100 can be spent on more Ram or a faster SSD.

my GTX 980 has a vapour chamber titan cooler (ref cooler) on it - so its not a return as all firstrun cards ome with them!

I'm not inclined to pay more for a standard version, especially I need to have a blower-type cooler, due to physical constraints in my case.

As Above " Hell No" ) New name but just a reference card AIB always beef up the card with better memory speeds & Coolers just 2 months later so why on earth buy one?

Re: QOTW: Would you pay extra for a GTX 1080 Founders Edition?

Yes, as it's the only way to get the reference cooler. OEM 'blower' coolers are universally ####, and every benchmark thus far has shown the NVTTM-style cooler is equal in performance to open coolers. Louder if you've got a big case where your casefans can make up for the deficiencies of an open cooler, quieter in a small or airflow-restricted case.

The caveat is waiting for proper benchmarking first. Unless the 1080 is significantly faster than the 980ti for VR, then I'll probably wait the half-year for the '1080ti'.

I'm waiting for Bristol Ridge AM4. Hopefully this answers the question.

Could you post some links to the benchmarks showing this please?

I've got a GTX970 with the MSi Twin Frozr V cooler on it. Many games don't even require the fan on the cooler because it doesn't get hot. It just doesn't.

Would rather pay $599 for a partner card than £599 for one!

Re: QOTW: Would you pay extra for a GTX 1080 Founders Edition?

I still don't understand why they went with the rename, Founders Edition just makes it misleading and sound like its better than the standard one. I personally would either buy a partner card or an AMD card.
