I've got a GTX970 with the MSi Twin Frozr V cooler on it. Many games don't even require the fan on the cooler because it doesn't get hot. It just doesn't.
The 'Twin Frozr V' is an open cooler, not a blower cooler. Its performance is mostly based on how much airflow your case fans are providing.
OEM blower coolers like this POS, for example nobody bothers to even benchmark, as they're considered 'budget' lines (and treated as such by OEMs).

Hell no I haven't got money to burn. Will get the best value balancing performance v. quietest.

Re: QOTW: Would you pay extra for a GTX 1080 Founders Edition?

    yes, with two conditions
    1. it actually runs cooler
    and
    2. if i was running SLI
and since i dont have the slightest intention of running SLI, i'm waiting for the Evga ACX version.

No, I would wait also for the partner cards and the reviews to come out. I am running SC 970's and do not see much of an upgrade right now.

I'll wait to see what the 1080Ti has to offer with a custom cooler which should be much quieter than the reference wind tunnel Nvidia uses.

Re: QOTW: Would you pay extra for a GTX 1080 Founders Edition?

No - I can only afford up to a 1070 - even then I'm more likely to go with polaris as it looks like it will have similar performance at less cost if the rumours are to believed.

There are a small SFF cases that benefit from blower coolers and 3rd party ones tend to be scarce and not very good so there is some use case... however, I think this is primarily just a way of squeezing out cash from early adopters.

No, I definitely wouldn't, although I have never pre-ordered or bought any hardware as soon as it has been released.

Re: QOTW: Would you pay extra for a GTX 1080 Founders Edition?

I haven't really found a definitive answer, but I'm still hoping the "reference" design will still be available at the lower price after the initial launch. It seems strange that you can have Partner branded "reference" boards from Zotac and the like but they ave going to have to charge a higher price for them than their custom designs. I too need a blower design to dissipate heat in my mini itx case. Having said that I think I'll just sit it out with my 980 until the 1080ti arrives, swap out my case and opt for a hybrid GPU next time.

No. I'd never pay that for a single component.

Do we have the option of paying less?

I would like to pay about £200 less. At that price I'm possibly interested.

Why pay extra for a reference design? I'll wait til the OC editions come out. Those i'll pay more for.
