    You don't buy a 1080 to play at 1080p....

I think we said almost the same of the 680 way back

But the good bit about this is how well they do on Vulkan API, which bodes well for other DX12 and console-port performance. Whether that's innate, or whether they've convinced ID to use particular features for acceleration we'll have to see - AMD should do really well in Vulkan too.

If I get one I'd have to buy a 3rd screen. Hmmmm

Supposedly that is all their video wall was capable of.

Sounds like this might be the first proper Vulkan game, should make for some excellent benchmarks when the 1070 & 1080 reviews start rolling in.

Clearly you're not going to be spending $699 (well, $599 if you want a third party shroud/cooler) on a graphics card to play Doom at 1080p! Also with "accelerate black pixel discard" in hardware, it doesn't take much to render Doom

No but it does show that you can run it at 1440p or higher via DSR and still get at least 60fps.

If they showed it running 1440p via DSR then it'd show that you can run 1440p via DSR... but they didn't do that either as far as I can tell or they'd have said so

so they are happy that 980 SLI aka GTX 1080 can reach 100-120 FPS @ 1080p?!?! this card is high end aimed for 4k, this is really absurd.

Where have they said that? Everything I've seen has said it's aimed for VR, where they're doing a warping trick to cast the same display from different angles, avoiding needing to fully render VR resolutions (in fact a lot of the features were based around not having to render full VR).

They did show The Witcher 3 at significantly higher resolution than 4K.. like 240 times higher resolution actually! Frame rate wasn't all that good though... )

Who on earth believes that excuse? Given the massive amounts of money spent developing new cards if the card was capable of running the game well at a higher resolution they would have spent that bit extra to show it off.

Re: Nvidia publishes video of DOOM running on the GeForce GTX 1080

naaaaa! the 240 times higher resolution than HD is a lie because there is no such projector and the max Witcher 3 graphics setting is no more that 8k with pro level twicks. That projector is just 4k which 'zooms'the image to fit the wall (or scaled for geeks)
