    Yes it should be and should bring with it compatibility for both APUs and FX CPUs.

    I'll be waiting for Zen before buying into AM4.
    I made the mistake of buying into AM3+ with an Athlon II x3 with the intent of upgrading to the mighty bulldozer - we all know how that turned out. This time I'll wait for benches of both Kaby Lake and Zen before making a decision.

    Not jumping on AM4 immediately should also leave time for boards to mature. There may well not be any itx boards at launch and I'm planning to downsize my next build.

    If there are ITX boards and a cheap enough APU then I would probably buy straight away. I don't want to be buying £100 of Excavator based APU right now though, but a cheap quad core would be fine. Was even considering AM1 to keep me going for now, but would rather not.

    Seeing how overpriced the GTX1080 is, I'll probably be buying a high end AM4 board and APU chip along with a Polaris card.

    Depends on what Bristol Ridge APU's offer.

    "On the surface the phrase 'Polaris updates ' doesn't sound good for hopes of a Polaris launch at Computex - unless Polaris has already been launched by the time of this press conference."

    26th May.

    I'm not holding my breath with AMD launching soon. Last year was delay after delay. Guessing you will have a launch at computer but general availability won't be until July or August.

    Bristol Ridge seems a certainty so AM4 would be too.

    I may be in a small minority here, but I would switch to AMD if:

    (a) Zen chipsets support x16 PCIe 3.0 lanes
    instead of the x4 lanes in Intel's DMI 3.0 link;

    (b) motherboards support 4 x U.2 ports with
    all modern RAID modes and TRIM (removing SATA-Express
    ports will free up room for 2 or 3 more U.2 ports):

    http://supremelaw.org/systems/nvme/4xU.2.and.SATA-E.jpg

    (c) Zen chipsets anticipate PCIe 4.0's 16 GHz clock rate
    and 128b/130b "jumbo frame";

    (d) hybrid DIMM slots e.g. "triple-channel" allowing
    one bank of slots to accommodate JEDEC-compatible NVDRAM;

    (e) UEFI subsystems that support a "Format RAM" feature
    to allow fresh installs of an OS directly to NVDRAM:

    AM4 sounds like it is going to be an SOC with minimal external chipset, so all the PCIe stuff will be down to the CPU and motherboard and can change over time like FM2 went from PCIe2 to PCIe3.

    NVDRAM isn't ready yet, don't expect to see it in products for a while.
