QOTW: How fast is your home download speed?

FAST.com tells me I have "53". I guess that's supposed to be 53 MBit/s, which matches my supposed 55/12 MBps/s pretty well.

I find FAST.com slightly useless, however, since it only shows/measures downstream speeds. I know that's what mainly interests NetFlix, but personally I find upstream speeds at least as important.

BTW Speedtest.net shows I've got 53.4 MBit/s downstream and 11.96 MBit/s upstream.

60Mb/16Mb and no it isn't much faster than 2yrs ago. Still it's unlimited & I get it for free apart from line rental so mustn't grumble

Sadly fast.com isn't up to snuff for my connection as i reach the speedtest rated speeds all the time downloading games on steam, etc.

8.4-8.6 Mbps in the sticks in south west France... it's actually slightly better than I thought it'd be!

Seems to be about the same as Ookla gets with me.

That's with 70 from virgin.

My upload speed however is not even a tenth of that.

Fast.com says 320Mbps, quite a lot slower than speedtest which is
820Mbps up, 920Mbps down!

However as soon as it hits around 15.30 weekdays it drops to around 14Mb till 11pm (Open Reach - Sky Fiber) and if my son starts streaming or voip it drops to around 7Mb, when it rains it drops also but we are stuck as there is no Virgin Media in our area and sick of calling Sky with issues that Open Reach just aren't bothered about fixing.

You know you keep reading stories about how they are going to boost speeds and so on, instead of doing that why not invest in the existing network and actually bring better stable speeds to those who can't get Virgin Media and rural areas

I'm on the SamKnows internet speed network. It basically tests my speeds during the day and along with everyone else's it helps to determine who has what speeds within the industry. My last monthly report was for 201.79Mbps download and 12.73Mbps upload speeds and those are averages for the month with 30 readings. Just tried Fast.com and got 210Mbps and with Speedtest.net I got 208.34. As I am paying for 200Mbps I am more than happy.

2.1 Mbps > I live in North Cardiff. It's strange as there is a high population of residential here, and only 4 miles away from central Cardiff, however, Virgin doesn't run here. We are left with having to use standard phone line broadband. This is with Sky, but it was the same with TalkTalk before. Not sure what it would be with Fibre though......
