They are double what they are a few years ago,so in the end part of the market decrease is from people just buying consoles instead of PCs and the rest of us spending more and more on graphics cards.

Yes, and people not buying any graphics card for their office PC any more. (and there being fewer home PCs as tablets/phone fill a similar role).

PC enthusiast gaming was once a niche, and very expensive, hobby. Then it became more mainstream, now it's heading back to the minority again.

People would need to become fanatical to pay £650 for a third tier card.

For the price of the GTX1080 card you could build a full system and a really high performance one at that.

It launched at £2400. I expect the 1080 will come down in price over it's lifetime too

The partner editions at scan.co.uk are currently more expensive than the reference/founders edition with some priced at more than £700!

Yep and they sold over 500 FE in a matter of minutes.

Don't worry guys, I'm sure Polaris is gonna be really exciting too, just another month to go or something.

Re: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 graphics cards available in UK

I know nVidia spends a huge amount on R&D for these cards but jeez their top end cards used to be over £200 less not so long ago. That's a bit more than inflation. I would love a 1080 and I can afford a 1080 but I'm not paying that much just so I can turn on some extra AA in games. The 970 was a great value card and sold like hotcakes. Neither of these are.

But they are not out and the 1080 is currently the fastest card available and therefore demands the highest price.

Or do you think it makes financial sense to release the fastest card ever and price it cheaper then slower cards? Hmmmm

The amount of winging is amazing, no ones forcing you to buy one and if their prices are unreasonable, then they won't sell any.

What makes me laugh is that all price whines are from nVidia haters, makes me think they are oddly in the market for a nVidia card......

No, you just price it at the same amount as the previous higher cards, maybe a little bit more at first, then reduce the price of everything that's previous generation. This is a totally standard business practice across almost every industry known to man.

I don't think any of us are Nvidia haters, most of us have their cards or have in recent past... so yeah we perhaps would be in the market for an Nvidia card... if it wasn't so extortionate.

I don't understand why you think its unreasonable to complain about them releasing such an expensive card?

We want to see products on the market that justify their price tag, and we feel it doesn't, so that's what we say... CTF backed up this opinion by pointing out Nvidias margin increases. I really don't understand your, 'SILENCE NON-BUYERS' position.

Seems like you just got your back up because so many people disagree with you tbh.

*facepalm* My current gpu is a 970 and over the years I've most likely bought more nvidia gpus than amd. The only fanboy here is you and in this thread your opinion is overwhelmingly disagreed with.... The reason why there are sooo many different gpu models is to hit different price points so consumers can get a fair idea of what they're buying and the relative performance to other models. If a 1070 price point starts to match the 980 what message does that send?
