I'm guessing it uses something custom as its not mATX so doesn't need to conform to the standard. It might be the white connector at the top of the board (slightly to the right)?

Yeah figure it would be just a simple DC plug...and whoever is running with the rumours about Nvidia using full sized Pascal to laptops must not have seen how warm they run....

Re: Colorful shows off motherboard with built-in GTX 1070 GPU

My money's on an external DC power supply which connects to the external connector to the top left. The board components in that area, e.g. the inductors and diodes, look like a group of switching DC convertors, typical of such an external power supply.

If you clock it slower than the desktop model, then you can turn the voltage down and make it run reasonably cool.

The 1080 doesn't run much hotter than the 980 and they managed to shove a desktop one of those in a laptop. By the looks of things they could quite happily chuck cherry picked 1070s straight into laptops, although unless the R&D costs for Pascal are extremely high it would probably be better to do a redesign.

Actually, I can see this in a PS4 or XBone shell, for a console with PCMR power!

Non-standard layout - more than likely designed for a proprietary machine.

Maybe a Steam box or some kind of VR tie-in machine.

Pretty awesome. Reminds me of the stuff Zotac do but bigger and subsequently more powerful.

So... just your average AIO motherboard then? It's not something you can just buy and integrate yourself by the looks of it, so why has it attracted so many headlines vs the countless other AIO boards with built-in GPUs?

I can't but help wonder if this design really has many advantages compared to a more traditional layout. At least they were clever enough not to solder down the truly expensive components.

I'm not sure there's an AIO anywhere that has a soldered on high end GPU - most of them use standard MXM modules or even desktop cards, if they're not reliant in the IGP in the CPU...
