Re: QOTW: What capacity is the power supply in your main PC?

    Desktop: 750W Supernova G2
    HTPC: 500W SilverStone SFX-L
Would have liked for both to be lower capacity units, but the combination of units on the market at the time of purchase, warranty length, noise, efficiency and price kind of forced my hand.

The HTPC could do with 200-300W, but there are no Gold or higher efficiency units available, and even fewer without noisy fans. For the desktop, I'd have gone for the 650W G2 if it had the same 10-tear warranty, or the 550W if it had been available at the time of purchase.

Re: QOTW: What capacity is the power supply in your main PC?

450W. I have the Corsair CS450M. It is far more than adequate. Almost all high end systems now use less than 500W so I wish the psu makers would make some 300w psus instead of making over 1000w ones that nearly no-one needs. I have used the CX430 in many builds for other people and it is plenty good enough.

I bought an XFX Pro 1250w (same as the seasonic) for £130 and though I got a good deal. £70 is a bargain.

Re: QOTW: What capacity is the power supply in your main PC?

EVGA Supernova 850 G2. Got it 50% off thanks to the coupon that came with my 980 Ti.

I also bought a P2 Kill A Watt, running every benchmark I have(1 at a time) the max its pulling from my wall is 475w(includes my printer in standby and my modem because it blocks both sockets)

Assuming it holds up, I don't see me upgrading for a while.

Re: QOTW: What capacity is the power supply in your main PC?

BeQuiet Straight Power 10 500W psu - more than enough for just a Core i5-6600K and a GeForce GTX 970.

And moving forward, with the ever increasing gains to efficiency - and given my everlasting dislike of multi-gpu setups - I don't see any need to go beyond 500W in future builds. And long may it remain!

Re: QOTW: What capacity is the power supply in your main PC?

EVGA 1000 G2. Total overkill that was intended for a system running 3 GTX 680s, but now it runs my system with a 5820k and 970. It has a 10 year warranty, so I don't plan on "upgrading" any time soon. If anything, I would reduce the size of my psu.
