    EIST at work.

*Edit - Just for some context here is a Firestrike run from this system. You can see the CPU clocks down when the performance isn't needed but clocks back up again when it is.

I scored 98.3%. retried and always got over 99% after that. Yup, it's watercooled!

Plugged my phone in after a few minutes, which I think must have caused the dip in CPU, was on for a pretty good score if it wasn't for that.. still passed. Thanks Hexus and Futuremark for the freebies

Interesting result. I didn't think that card had turbo/boost clocks, so it's just throttling a smidge based on temps/power draw? Have you tried playing with powertune (if you don't want such throttling?)

Super cool CPU though. Think my temps won't look quite so nice

7870xt does indeed have a small GPU boost. Stock clocks are 925/975 and 1500 MHz memory.
Mine's a weird XFX card that I suspect was the result of XFX clearing their parts bin - the boost has a slight factory OC to 1000, but memory only runs at 1250 and the cooler is missing a heatpipe compared to the otherwise identical cooler on their 7870 (the cutouts are there in the fins and contact plate for the other heatpipe).
TBH I regret getting the card, it has horrible coil whine and runs hot - it's not unusual for it to hit 90, at which point the firmware kicks the fans into full hair drier mode (custom fan profile in afterburner works until 90, then it's hair drier no matter what). Bring on the RX4x0 (unsure whether to get 7 or 8 yet)!

The CPU temp reading is wrong! The delta between high and low is correct, but you need to add about 30 degrees. I suspect it'll be the same for all AMD CPUs.

Re: 3DMark's Stress Test with a difference

    Thanks Tarinder and FutureMark.

7870 and i7 950 both overclocked (no fancy cooling, just air). This is either a nice example, or pitcairn remains lovely! (Hence high hopes for the 480)

edit: Ah this is not the extreme, just normal. Will test the extreme in a bit.

Re: 3DMark's Stress Test with a difference

    OK the extreme result...

    *cough*

    100%

Less CPU load I guess as waiting on the GPU more. Only 16fps average though (still, beats the 7870 XT )

Not really a surprise since I don't think the card boosts, so only change would be throttling. At peak temp of 75C it's nowhere near the throttling threshold.

Re: 3DMark's Stress Test with a difference

I ran it a couple more times and got 98.5% each time.

    Ooh, haven't tried extreme mode...

1150 at the moment. It's stable up to something like 1250 but I prefer to stay away from peaks for every day use (ditto CPU @3.9 - could happily go much higher).
