A 220mm^2 die size is encouraging for AMD I think... We expect the 480 to perform close to the GTX980, which is roughly 60% of the performance of the new GTX1080. The 220mm^2 die is 70% the size of the GTX1080 die (314mm^2), so very roughly scaling up the 480 die to be the same size as the GTX1080 suggests that Polaris' performance/mm^2 of silicon will be comparable to Pascal.

I know this is very rough estimates - but it's a good indication that hopefully AMD is not massively behind Nvidia.

We need to see the GTX1060 but if the RX 480 is the replacement for the the R9 380 I think AMD look to be ahead of Nvidia.

You order one of the new cards and when they finally am able to send it to you.. the opponent has beaten them in speed and power and vice versa... not going fanboy anything... just buying the fastest and best that currently is available... NVIDIA/AMD or whatever... or maybe something completely third if some other company go crazy with new VGA cards.

7+1 power phases seems a lot. Maybe this isn't the full fat Polaris after all.

Everyones expectations for the price & performance of the 400 series cards in the UK seem to be set by the US not taking into account the usual pricing closed ecosystem of the UK.
Pre-orders of £240 for the 8gb 480 is hardly budget gaming.Just usual main stream pricing. As leaked benchmarks(probably best case scenario) show close to 390x performance & now priced to match.

I think you have that backwards. The 480 is expected to come in at £240, so the old £340 390X is having to be priced down to that level.

If availability is good, then it won't take long for the price to come down on those £240 cards though. My 4GB R9 380 was supposed to retail at £190, but I got it well under that. If the 4GB 480 starts at about the same recommended retail, then I think people will be OK with that.
