'saving reviewers time' is rubbish - reviewers can OC enable an OC mode in seconds if they want - primarily though they are reviewing in order to let the user know what experience they will have with a card, so changing defaults between reviewer and retail copies is reprehensible.

Yes I remember you made a note of specifying that both in the review and in this news article (because it was a retail unit, not reviewer provided, you say).

More evidence that sourcing from retail rather than manufacturer for reviews is the superior option.

It's nothing to do with saving time - it's that the odd reviewer might forget to engage it before benchmarking (it happens), and suddenly their card looks rubbish compared to the plethora of almost identical cards (which shipped with OC turned on).

Except retail cards don't have it turned on, and other manufacturers don't either.

I think a little more transparancy is needed really, I dont think its a bad thing doing it, if the card can run all day in OC mode then that should be the mode used in the reviews to show the cards peak performance.

Maybe cards in the future should be benchmarked using both modes? and a little paragraph explaining the benifits of both modes?

First it was VW lying about emissions.... Now its PC Component manufacturers lying about capabilities of their stuff.

The MSI R9 280X Gaming figures are not incorrect. The card features 3 modes; quiet, normal and fast. The 1050 setting is simply the faster mode surely?

So does every other company, I just prefer that they come clean about it as it is, for an instance it wont stop me from buying Asus products, never had a fault on anything they made or for that sake blowing up in my face unless I did something stupid on my own behalf.

Personally I don't see this being a massive issue. It isn't as if the manufacturers are preventing customers from accessing those modes bar the installation of additional software.

Same here. MSI/Asus should have made it clearer that the review samples are already set to OC mode but, other than that, I think the world will keep on turning despite this news.

I agree it's not that big an issue, but the simple matter is that review cards should not be any different from retail cards, even if both could be converted to the other easily.

They were most likely very cherry picked cards on top of this crap.
