I personally hope Vulkan wipes Direct X off the map. PC developers please start embracing and indeed, snogging Vulkan ! Lets see MS die ASAP.

How would you feel about this making Android consoles take off? People keep trying to make them, one day it might stick.

Yeah I would love to move to Linux. I like Windows 10 overall but the automatic updates thing is really doing my head in.

Out of interest in what way is your head being done in?

I find my Fedora updates are far more frequent and far reaching than the Windows ones, though the fact that I choose when to apply them and the box doesn't require a reboot after does make it less disruptive.

I am finding Win 10 less stable than 7 though. Occasional hangs, and niggles like the kids asking where the sound has gone as it doesn't seem to cope so well with headphone insert/removal with multiple sound sources.

I need a better choice of games to play to stay in Linux though, or perhaps an RX480 so I can afford to drop 30% performance vs Windows and still get playable frame rates

Thats exactly it. I dont get to choose when it does updates, it just does it. If you're on the ball you can schedule them to another time but in my experience it just does what it wants. I even modified my group policy to block updates without me enabling it again and then one of the updates disabled it... Honestly I dont know why they dont just have the same system as 7 where you can choose to tell it to check for updates and notify you, then you choose when to download and install them. Unnecessary removal of control.

Would love to use Linux, but the drivers are too ####ty to use it for anything other than servers.

To some degree I feel the people that never update have ruined it for us. Imagine how many support calls MS used to get when a user's system is acting up and when asked what was the last time they updated their OS they reply, "I don't know maybe 1-2 years ago?" -> MS: "Eat bricks, now you are getting updates whether you want them or not." Still, I wish there was a somewhat easy way to disable that.

Re: Samsung embraces Vulkan API for immersive gaming

I'm definitely looking forward to this - I have been able to avoid using Windows on any of my machines for several years now, though drivers do continue to be a pain.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, so am pleasantly surprised by the games I can play via Steam. I'm not so fussed about Android gaming, but I expect greater adoption of Vulkan will ensure a healthy supply of games on non-Windows platforms for the forseeable future.
