For example 8,000 Radeon RX 480 cards will be available in North America from day one.

8000 doesn't seem that plentiful for the whole of NA to me. Any comment from friendly retailers?
Re: Plentiful supplies of AMD Radeon RX 480 cards are reported
why can't they put the power points on the rear side. would make for tidier systems!

I imagine that would be against the PCI-E spec as I don't believe cards are allowed to be much wider than the slot on the right hand side to ensure cards on the right fit. Annoying but imagine thats why no one has done it.
Really excited for the 480 and glad they have decently levels of stock. I might even get a reference cooler if the reviews are good!

I too am awaiting the reviews...and if the pricing is as good as it appears to be then the RX480 will be my new card.

By the time 480 launches Nvidia would have sold 500,000 G1070's and 200,000 G1080's...feeling disapointed at AMD

Gibbo said OcUK sold 1000 GTX1080 cards since launch. In the same thread he said he expects to sell 500 RX480 cards on the LAUNCH day. He also said they are stocking both 4GB and 8GB cards.
Re: Plentiful supplies of AMD Radeon RX 480 cards are reported
So they are going to sell 500 on launch day and the whole of NA gets 8,000. Something seems wrong, was the NA number supposed to say 80,000 or 800,000 ?

Yes you can buy the 1080, the problem is though it take forever to get the mentioned item, being able to have 8000 spot on is a lot, Nvidia is lacking on that department actually having some sort of ready stock whenever they launch VGA cards, at least that is my experience.

If we assume that other major retailers are the same as OCUK at 500 on launch day: OCUK, Aria, Scan, Ebuyer, CCL, Amazon, Novatech, 1x other/combined smaller players = 4k cards
This is a very rough, and imho very generous guesstimate.
8000 on launch day for the US sounds a bit tight but not too bad, assuming there's decent stock flow following the initial rush.
Re: Plentiful supplies of AMD Radeon RX 480 cards are reported
OCUK is a massive site for high end GPU sales in the UK. It is likely they got the lion's share of 1080s.

If it's as popular as people are making it sound, 8000 isn't going to be anywhere near enough and the price gouging might start.

my error, i meant on the back of the card nearest the front of the case :)

I'm sure AIB partners will put it there on some cards, but you will see why they can't on the reference design - the PCB is very short and stops some-way short of the total cooler shroud. So you couldn't have a connector on the edge as the PCB doesn't go that far, but it does contact the top of the card. Hence why the connector looks like it's in the middle of the cooler.

There's a lot of hype surrounding the launch, and there will be a rush, but I don't think it'll be as large as people are expecting. A lot of the hype is among enthusiasts and I expect a lot of enthusiasts to already have cards at a similar performance level, or close enough that an upgrade isn't worthwhile. Enthusiasts wanting a 480 are also probably likely to wait for non-reference cards.
My prediction is that it'll have consistently high ongoing sales following a smaller launch than the hype would suggest. I also expect the 460 and 470 will massively outsell the 480 - onboard graphics these days are competent enough for a lot of people. If they do look for an upgrade then a cheap discrete card gives a huge boost - 750ti is still a very popular card despite its age, but the 460 should de-throne it.

but that's different market segments, I don't think there will be many people who buy $400 or $600 when their budget is $200
