I've decided not to bother with a reference 480 but these look good however 970s are appearing for £200... Decisions Decisions...
At least the Sapphire card appears to have a DVI port. My monitor predates DisplayPort (though has HDMI), so I'd either have to get an HDMI cable or use an adaptor if I went for the reference design.

If they can get the price back to its intended £180 price point, I'll jump. Until then...

AiB partner designed cards sure look nice, much better than the reference cards. I'm waiting for the release dates and the reviews before making any decisions.
But on the other hand, since reference designs are always blowers, not having DVI enables the exhaust to be essentially a full slot. Both HDMI and DP to DVI leads and adapters are very cheap on ebay though.Quote:

I'm personally hoping to find out whether it's possible to install an old Thermalright Shaman on an RX 480, as this is what I have installed on my Sapphire HD 6950 and it's a monster of a heatsink.
I've tried to find information on this, but my German is too rusty to understand one article I found on www.pcgameshardware.de which has looked into this, though I think they're suggesting it doesn't fit, which is sad if true.
Update: I've spent more time with the article here and with the help of Google Translate and a bit of patience, it seems that the Thermalright Shaman "[cannot] be mounted on the RX 480" as "the coldplate of the cooler is a few millimetres higher than the GPU die". Schade.
It's good you've looked into this - the pictures of the reference board in that article show that the VRM capacitors are fairly close to the GPU. That Shaman is a beast of a cooler, and its heatpipes extend horizontally quite a way before curving around - it's these heatpipes conflicting with the capacitors that's keeping the coldplate from making contact with the GPU die.Quote:
