Better, but shouldn't have been up to a software fix after launch.

I have a complete set of performance numbers, on our benchmarks, of this driver versus the press driver used in the original review. Will update this article with a table in the next hour or so.

RotTR was just patched for better DX12 performance, you might like to see what that does for 480 and 1070/80 as well

Put the performance update in. You can see that numbers do go up a few per cent in almost every case. Will have a play with the compatibility mode later, but am a little more excited with what is happening with this card right now.

Edit, will rebench ROTTR. The update came right after I put in the new green team's card.

Source please? I've been scouring the net for these failed Mobos or PSUs and I'm yet to find any. I currently have a R9 295x2, if you go by spec, it would only be rated at 375W but it can pull 500W+ with ease and nothing has fried up in my 2 years with the card. PCIE can pull much much more power than these outdated 2004 spec.
The worst case scenario is reduction in the OC headroom but I doubt many will be doing that on a reference card.

Quick question then Tarinder - If you had a preorder on 480 Nitro with a decent overclock would you cancel it now having seen the 1060 or is the differences going to be minimal?

I somehow doubt the NDA has been lifted. So whilst Tarinder might have the numbers, I somehow doubt that you'd get a straight up answer, at least for now

EDIT: I should add that rumours have it that the 1060 die (GP106) is in quite short supply atm, which translate to way over MSRP for available cards and long waiting times to pick one up. You still have about 6 days to cancel your order? I'd wait past the reviews to see how the stock quantity is like before making the jump.

Just a hint would do That or does anyone know when the NDA lifts on the 1060? I can't imagine it'll be long as they won't want people like me buying 480s!

They've already done enough to make you waver on the purchase.. they might not want to do any more

I'll reserve judgement until we see if any partners release a card engineered down to the $249 entry price - they weren't exactly rushing to get cheap 1070s and 1080s on the shelves...

Thanks for the link to PCPer, btw, interesting article. Also informative - I hadn't realised how over-specced the PCIe connectors were compared to the PCIe power spec for the entire socket. Going to have to go hunting for results for an undervolted card in compatibility mode now...

    ... until July 19.
Are you even allowed to say that??!?!?!

Re: AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.7.1 released

I wonder how this driver (and presumably all subsequent drivers) will play with custom cards? Some of which may have their own power phase design that doesn't follow the reference board...
