    You could try Vivaldi - a Chromium-based Opera spin-off.

Re: Opera Software to sell core business in $600 million deal

I only use my Opera install to separate my cashback purchasing so cookies don't get lost/mixed up. As long as it stays lean I can't see myself switching it. If spying is an issue I'm sure it won't be any worse with a new company taking over - privacy is probably already compromised at the ISP level anyway.

Move to Vivaldi. Fantastic, customisable and so usable.

Because it's now owned by China, sometimes people forget China is not a democracy or a country that respects the rule of law or intellectual property. Greed in the west has blinded many as to the actual costs of doing business there.

If it's within the Chinese governments interests they will absolutely build spyware into the browser or make it act as a delivery vehicle and the Chinese owners will not hesitate for a second to comply because the alternative would death/ruin or worse wind up in a Chinese state prison.

The PRC gov absolutely changes it's mind on a whim, see the recent games rating issues, basically favoring the biggest games companies with the closest ties to the government.

There is also the fact that many of China's wealthy elite (with no connection to existing industries) are trying to hide assets from the government and are going on external buying spree's (hence the many recent attempted takeovers) dumping their money into foreign companies in the hope of keeping it away from the gov, of course what should happen if they get caught remains to be seen and the Chinese gov seizes said assets.

As others have said move over to Vivaldi, Opera is dead to anyone outside China.

Vivaldi looks nice, I'll give it a try! As for governments I don't trust the Chinese, US or British! Although I probably distrust the Chinese that tiny bit more
