480 thanks but 1060 is a lot more price competitive than I'd given Nvidia credit for, considering the hefty premiums for the next models up..

    I'll go with the 480.
Lower price, more VRAM, basicly the same performance overall in DX11 as the 1060, but much better in DX12/Vulkan.
The 1060 has better power condumption, but i don't really care if its 120 or 170W.

I would pick the AMD card. Nvidia has too many proprietary technoligies involving their products. I like open standards so buyers can switch out components easier.

And it would definately be a partner card. The much lower noise levels make a big difference.

They are very close in DX11 but it looks like Pascal is no better than Maxwell when it comes to the next gen API's and Nvidia don't support FreeSync or Mantle. So I would take the RX 480 over the GTX1060.

480 of course, the G-sync situation means the GTX 1060 is a mockery of a mid-range offering.

xfire option & multi adapter support hopefully with a Zen APU, freelance, vulcanised, dx12, far better value, much better long term support.. easy choice IMHO.

Re: QOTW: AMD Radeon RX 480 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060?

Had the 480 been available, it would have been in my computer already. Now, I'll just wait and see what the prices do and my trusted 660Ti will continue till whenever. AMD really lost out on a lot of sales with the big hype and only limited amounts of Vanilla cards available. Pity. Could have been the big turn around.

I don't think "the dust has settled" since you mostly cant get your hands on any models you might want of either card
But id definitely go with the 480 just because its closer to the magic price point of 200 dollars.

Re: QOTW: AMD Radeon RX 480 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060?

Neither for myself. Waiting for Vega. But everyone else I recommend getting the RX 480, because it's way more future proof. You can get a cheap seconday 480 later to increase the performance in most demanding games. There's also the insanely good DX12 and Vulkan performance and of course a manufacturer that isn't trying to scam you, cripple the market with proprietary junkware or pay reviewers to ignore certain benchmarks.

480, not that I will buy one. I think I'll skip this 'Generation'

If a quieter 480 came out, I would probably go for that.

I'm pretty sure once you set the temp limit and fan speed just about any RX 480 will be very quite.

    Meant to be inaudible.

If I had to buy a card today it would be a Sapphire RX480 4GB. Since I don't have to, I won't be buying anything until the HBM2 cards are released and in stock.
