    Yes i agree, but there is huge difference compared to the usual case. Usually the epsilon (which is what you pointed out + revenue) is not more than 50% of the hardware.

    Now we are talking 200% ...

    I would love to see the same for Geforce 1080

    The breakdown doesn't even include the cost of the lenses (go and try and find a off-the-shelf set of hybrid-fresnel aspherics), and lists costs for megaunit smartphone volumes rather than kilounit HMD volumes.

    As for the Kickstarter funding: that wasn't even sufficient to fun R&D for the initial run of DK1 kits, and was dwarfed by the VC funding rounds immediately afterwards (incidentally the $2 billion Facebook buys Oculus' figure was not money going to Oculus. It was money going to the VC funders to buy out their shared in Oculus). The $3.5million Kickstarter figure wouldn't even be enough to fund the tooling startup costs alone for the production line for the semicustom OLED panels used in the Rift CV1.

    You never know if Zenimax's claims are being Trumped up though
