I can't say that I have, and I don't see it as being an option that I would be willing to take any time soon either as it seems to be too integral to my life at this point. Am I hooked? Absolutely.

In the past if I have lost access to the net (something broken, moving house etc) it really does my head in for a couple days. But then I seem to adjust and tend to cope with it quite well. I get to catch up on other stuff.

Re: Majority of internet users claim to be 'hooked' says Ofcom

I'm set in my ways of doing things for x amount of time per day and if I don't do that then I get anxious for not having done it. This goes on for a couple days before I realise nothing bad's actually going to happen for not using the internet and I'm fine. I guess it's an addiction, but it's not that harmful, I guess.

I can live without it, but with that I don't bother with 'social' networking.

On the flip side its certainly good to have.

Re: Majority of internet users claim to be 'hooked' says Ofcom

Digital detox? Not really. We do go away several times a year, usually without a net connection, but I can't say it bothers me.

Then again, I'm certainly not hooked.

I don't do social media. I might for business purposes if I needed to, but I don't need yo so don't use any form of social media ... except this and one or two other forums, if that counts as social media, which I guess it sort-of is but isn't what I'd normally mean with that term.

    Smartphone? Nope.

SMS? No. Everybody that knows me well enough to have my mobile number knows better than to text me. If it's important, phone me. If it isn't that important, it'll wait. But don't text 'cos I won't even bother looking at it.

Email? I use it, but not really all that much. And not regularly. It's not a good way to communicate with me as, these days, sometimes weeks or months go past without me checking mail. Or even turning my PC on. I use a tablet for Hexus most of the tine and never, ever use that for email.

Could I give up the internet? Oh, hell yeah. I very nearly have a couple of times, and at some poiny, perhaps soon, just might.

Just get rid of that 'social media' crap from your life, even better, it should be closed down, all of it.

Nothing has done more to dumb down life in this country in the last decade than 'social media'.

It does nothing more than provide an echo chamber for morons to congregate in and reinforce their idiotic tenancies.

Saracen, now I know why I have never received any reply to the gazillion texts I sent to you.

Just like some or most peeps, not addicted, but only spend time on Bookface, Tweeter and Postagram.

Very happy to live without the internet if I must.

I didn't take my phone on vacation and it is interesting what you see when you get lost.

This is pretty much where I am: I could reasonably easily live without the internet in general for all but one thing - Google Maps (I believe that other mapping tools are available in the interests of balance) is something I feel I'd really struggle without when in a city I don't know.

I occasionally go without when on holiday, but generally it's a great way to fill the mini bits of boredom that scatters the day.

The Internet is great as there is lots to do and it's easy to access from most places. I still struggle with things to do to escape my boredom though. I could read more, but I've never been a big reader.

I don't mind being totally without internet, or totally having it, what I can't stand is when it cuts out randomly !! Also, "hooked" is a loaded word with associations to substance abuse, not really the best description unless the person's only using the net to access negative tripe.

    The net is awesome
