I actually like this phone but that price is ludicrous... yes I know it's a high spec phone but £749 including VAT is about £200, well closer to £400 if you look at one plus etc, too high even for sim free.
Who in their right mind would pay that to gain 'modern apps' on a big screen, keyboard and mouse (which is more expense) when you could easily get a decent pc/laptop and a lower end win 10 phone (lumia 650 for around £120), which would all sync up if done right, for less.... its not like windows 10 on phones run bad on their lower spec models.
It was destined to fail at a 3rd of that price, but at least it would have made enough sales to recoup r&d
At this price it'll burn fast
I seem to remember an Android phone 6-7 years ago that did this (Was it an LG?)
That sank without trace too.
motorola did a device with a linux desktop as well as android. IIRC it was called atrix
palm came up with the foleo (basically a 'laptop' that was powered by the phone - sound familiar) but didn't go through with it because it got slated by most tech blogs who are now raving over the MS version of the exact same thing. Blackberry did something similar iirc too.
Asus had various generations of Padfone which had a dumb tablet or laptop dock for the phone to give you more real estate to play with. They seemed to invent problems these devices fixed: tired of having two data plans for tablet and mobile, buy another novelty device which cannot be upgraded separately - oh, or just tether them...
HP's Elite moniker is part of their business range of products so I assume that it will be heavily discounted for big corps. Only thing is, most big corps have chosen iPhones as their only supported mobile device or are still using BBs.
This product is entirely irrelevant. I think it's got what it takes to steal Amazon's award for biggest dud of the decade.
Absolute madness.
Jumps onto ebay, checks the price of a 950.. comes back here.
Madness.
Soon HP will probably release an article stating that they're no longer supporting Windows mobile 10 due to x or y... NOT due to pricing it stupidly high. HP, really, your time anywhere near the top is over.
Great looking device ... ridiculously stupid price.
Joke of a price, this will fail hard like their tablets. I will take bets on this being a deep loss seller like their tablets later on like a few years back.
Sigh, shesh HP come on.
Firstly, for the specs, it's on par with the latest S7. Secondly, for a techy who spends 20% of his time at his desk and the other 80% out in the field, this would be *brilliant*.
Being able to sit at my desk, plop my phone in and pick up where I left off after leaving site would be absolutely brilliant. I do have a hell'va lot of x86-only utilities on my laptop which would mean I still have to carry it with me but to be brutally honest I could probably do almost all the things I use my laptop for whilst I'm sat at my desk on this phone. The one thing that does my nut in currently is having to carry around a USB > Ethernet adaptor for my ultrabook!
I'd like to think in 5 years time we'll have Xpoint flash in our phone(s) and processing speeds to rival a current i5/i7 in something this small. One can dream, eh..? :-)
