Crash Bandicoot, or possibly Jak from Jak and Daxter.
Naughty Dog seem to be very good at characterisation...
Armakuni from The Last Ninja but I do love those games.
But picking something a bit more recognisable I like the other guy, you know the green one.....Luigi (Luigis Mansion 1 & 2 are superb)!!
Also love link from the Zelda games.
Wheatley from Portal 2

Bub.
there was one thing bub could do that bob couldn't on the C64.(at least the way me and sister played it) rapidfire bubbles into the wall and rack up the points. just face into the left wall and fireaway, bubble pops, you get 10 points. bob fires into wall facing right, the bubble just floats upwards.
if bob goes to the left wall to fire bubbles, bub just stand ontop of him and when the bubble pops it just counts for bub.
I never let my sister get the extra bubbles at the end of the level
wore out two joysticks playing that game. sat in front of the telly at weekends. great time to be a 9 year old
all my other favourites are from RPG games, where you make your own character. so they are only favourites because I made them that way.

It's a tough battle between several character but i think i like Sonic the most. Basically because it was one of the first games i really liked when i was a child. Still, Mario, Lara Croft and Gordon Freeman are also really close to winning
Raziel from Legacy of Kain.
Geralt of Rivia (Witcher) or Commander Sheppard (Mass Effect). I love deep stories and background lore
Favourite? Tricky. Very tricky.
Instant answer .... Guybrush Ulysses Threepwood.
But I want to think a bit more. It also depends on what mood I'm in. Like music, I pick games yo match, enhance or alter my mood. And nostalgia makes me remember good times with Duke Nukem, and if I was up for some action a la good ol' Duke-style, Guybrush wasn't going to cut it. And vice versa.
My favourite gaming character (notice I omitted the "video" bit) was a rather touchy-tempered very high level wizard from my AD&D days. Crossing him when he was in a mood was a good way of spending a few decades as a buttercup ... under a strategically placed cowpat. Imagine a cross between Gandalf on a very bad day, Althalus after a serious ticking off from Emmy, and Voldemort, and you'll be about there.
Schala Zeal. Just gonna assume that everyone, that has been a gamer for a while, knows exactly who that is
Geralt of Rivia.
If I had to pick a favourite, I'd have to say Sonic The Hedgehog.
If it was a Top 3, second would be Lara Croft and third would be Mario.
