They're as bad as Mumsnet.
What summed it up for me was someone on reddit, who obviously didn't understand the difference between a "bootkey" or a "bios" but threw the words out with reckless abandon. He suggested who should you believe, a lenovo rep or someone on reddit. Amazing. A minimum wage slave from Lenovo or a bunch of overpaid computer types on reddit whiling away their lunch break.
Some people want to see conspiracy everywhere.
This is "WinModems" all over again.

Approximately 10-25% of people in any industry are lazy and incompetent. Software and hardware development is no different. This locking to RAID mode will be to solve a problem they found. Who knows what the problem was, running in RAID fixed it. The proper solution would have either involved too much effort on the engineers involved directly (i.e. they were the incompetent ones) or the fix involved one or several third parties that were also infiltrated by the lazy and incompetent. The time it would take to get these 3rd parties to fix their screw ups might have made the product miss its deadline so under pressure from project managers they would have applied this fix.
This is the equivalent of using gaffer tape to cover the sharp edges where rust has destroyed your car to get it through MOT.
Oh and just to add, software development is more infiltrated by the incompetent because the demand for people that can write software massively exceeds the number of talented software developers as demand is so huge. Sometimes, as a company you are better off releasing rubbish than nothing at all. Hence the state and complete lack of reliability of modern software.

Yup storm in a teacup from people still stuck in the past. Trying to cling to a long dead issue that M$ is tying to kill the linux PC!!!!!
Microsoft is now one of the biggest corporate contributors to open source software beating out Google and Facebook.
The PC isn't even the dominant computing platform any more, no-one cares about linux on x86 or even Microsoft for that matter and all the action for hobbyists around linux in on Arm SoC's.
