There must be a fix that is cheaper than that, then sell them in a region that isn't so likely to go for the lawyers if there is further trouble?

Don't know if it applies, but I've seen Samsung 850 EVO SSDs go up in price quite aggressively of late (at least around here), which has made me wonder what's going on.

It seemed to happen just post-Brexit, so perhaps a semipre-emptive increase?
I'd decided to put off getting an SSD until the bad weather started so as to have more time indoors - expensive decision!

It's only been the last couple of weeks (maybe a month) here in Denmark. Actually, I managed to snatch a Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB at DKK 2125 (about GBP 255) back in September. Now, about a month later, the same drive costs DKK 2705 (about GBP 325), where it's cheapest *and* available. That's quite an increase in price!

I was hoping to be enticed by some discounting that can occur due to Black Friday/Xmas, looks like it may not be so great then this year, ahh well "back to the drawing board".
