Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
let's see..
quad-core is still enough.
internal GPU is still enough since i don't play games anymore.
i suppose what i need are :
* RAM to be upgraded from 4GB to 2x4GB.
* plus a 250GB SATA SSD of which i'm considering WD Blue or Samsung 750 Evo.
* a 80+ Gold with minimum wattage, like Seasonic G360.
i think that's about all ;)

Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
A third SSD because I've run out of storage (a full 500GB is audio libraries for Kontakt and Reaktor that take a painfully long time to load from HDD). Aside from that, I think I'm done with building desktop PCs and I'll just buy laptops from now on.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
27"/29" 2k IPS monitor to put in between my existing 23" ones and a "quiet" Geforce 1060
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I would say an AMD 4C/8T Ryzen if they get released this year, but it will be dependent on what the exchange rates look like at the time(will go secondhand or refurbished most likely if the pound does not hold).
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Nothing this year apart from perhaps adding another (and bigger) SSD!
Hoping to get 2 more years out of this rig at 1080p gaming, not interested in 4k until my current one won't even do 1080p 60fps at high/ultra anymore.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
The same components I wanted to buy this year but couldn't, that is a Bristol Ridge APU and B350 motherboard. (I optimistically already bought 16GB of RAM half a year ago to go with that.)
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Funds allowing, a big CPU/mobo/RAM/case* upgrade.
Whilst my FX8120 has lasted amazingly well for a ~5year old CPU, it is starting to show it's age here and there.
GPU and storage are good for a good few years more, so i'll only be replacing those if something fails.
*None of the front panel USB/audio ports or the sata-caddy on the top panel are functional anymore, all victims of a dodgy PSU a few years back.

Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Just ordered a rift so i'll probably need a new GPU later this year to power it properly.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Nothing. Not inside the pc anyway. I wanted a 2560x1440 144hz G-sync screen but the prices are such a joke now I just can't justify it.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Waiting for ryzen and mini-itx motherboards for the platform, apparently the x300 is the enthusiast SFF chipset and I'm guessing mini-itx will only be on the SFF chipsets rather than the standard ones but information is patchy and we still don't see the full limitations of it vs the standard x370.
Will I be able to pop an 8 core (or even a 4 core/8 thread) chip into an AMD mini itx motherboard AND have all the OC features or will I have to stick to intel boards?
That's what I'll be asking in a few months time.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Like many others, I have no plans for component upgrades.
I might scratch build a new case though; having gone SSD only (no HDD or Optical drive now) it seems silly to have a tower which twice as big as needed. Sadly nobody seems to make tiny cases for full ATX motherboards, also a scratch build would be an interesting challenge!
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
AMD Ryzen,
The top of the overclocking range motherboard for it from Asrock or Sapphire (preferable)
M2 512-1GB
AMD Vega
EK prefilled waterblock for the Vega, and AM4 fittings for the Predator 360 cooler...
Already ordered the C34F791 :)

GFX card, so i can mong out on star citizen without the joke graphics my ti 750 will put in my face

Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Increase to external HDD / NAS capacity, maybe but no internal components.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Everything. Case, PSU... the only survivor will be my 850 evo
Maybe get a 6 core Ryzen and smaller vega. 960 evo. Quite fancy an aerocool p7c1 case and nice be quiet PSU & cooler.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Not intending to upgrade any components this year.
But I will increase the size of my smaller SSD's from 250GB if the 1TB or 2TB ones drop enough in price.
Actually I have just seen the Nvidia post and I want to upgrade from my PG348Q to the upcoming 144Hz 4K HDR G-Sync Quantom Dot monitor, also the wife may want to upgrade from her PG279Q to one as well. I have been waiting for the 120Hz plus 4K G-Sync monitors
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
New GPU nvidia 1070 maybe or Vega and M.2 SSD
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Mulling over the upgrade / replacement for my working but aging U2410, no idea currently what to replace it with.
Would like to go all SSD for storage on the gaming rig but prices are still silly for large drives and even more so for the M.2 and U.2 types (which would be my choice)
The new CPU / Chipsets could be intresting in what new features and upgrades they bring but currently not feeling it for Kabylake.
A lot of what i am looking at arn't really upgrades mainly replacements for kit that is working all be it a few years old.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Skylake i3-6100 in my HTPC up to Kaby Lake i5, TDP permitting. Just upgraded my internal storage to 9TB total, vastly preferable to external anything, now looking to fill it up with a bunch of 4k stuff.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Either going to be z270 plus i5 or 8c/16t amd with a nice board (i like asus, hopefully a maximus type board will be available.) Nvme ssd, new case (hopefully corsairs obsidian range is updated soon) some rgb lighting. Ill stick with my gtx 970 strix for now. Black friday i got new mouse and keyboard. Just picked up a g29 wheel aswell so sorted on the extras. Dell 2408hc still works. Just case, cpu, mobo, ssd and rgb bits for me
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Much though I would like a Ryzen update, a new car comes first so I suspect funds for toys may be rather short.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I'll probably upgrade my drives to 1tb ssd's if they go cheaper in the following the months. Also may upgrade my graphics card after vega comes out (price wars :)). Finally i would upgrade my cpu cooler as the Noctua nh-d15 is starting to not cool properly; heat pipes ran out of gas:shocked2:?
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
My Asus 980Ti has a fan not working and runs up to 80c on Overwatch. Wanted a 1080Ti but no word yet on when that will be out if ever. Might just get a 1080 on sale and send my 980Ti back to get fixed
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
The two things I'd like to upgrade this year are my router, and my video card. My CPU/RAM/HDD combination is still quite adequate.
Replace my GTX-760 with a GTX-1070 (or 1080 if I can swing it).
Replace my Apple AirPort router with something like the Asus RT-AC5300.
I just updated to the Samsung 4k 28" screen (UE590), which is awesome BTW.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
None of them, i sold my z97+4790k+980ti setup before they lost more value and now i'm using an old socket775 system. I'll wait for PCIe 4.0 release, i think until mid 2018 i won't buy anything.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I'm looking at upgrading my black rubber grommets for 8mm white grommets
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I upgraded to Intel Skylake a few months ago with a Z170 motherboard so I don't think I'll be upgrading anything in this year. Perhaps storage if it fails.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Probably new board, processor and ram, probably Ryzen 8c 16t with 32gb ram (maybe 64gb depending on budget), may add another 2tb storage and split into 2 4tb raid 0 arrays (business/games split) use the 64gb ssd as cache on games raid array, might add a second 250gb ssd as a partial cache (60gb) on the business array and the rest a working area for lightroom.
Not an ideal setup for everybody but as a photographer/videographer it makes a lot of sense.
PS I do run external backups on the raid arrays already.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I would like to do a complete upgrade but I would only really need/be able to upgrade the GPU.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Waiting to see what this Ryzen thing turns out to be , crossing my fingers. Don't really need to upgrade anything since adding a Samsung SSD. My Phenom 11 x4 965 and Radeon 5770 is well fast enough for what I do ( No gaming ) and later chips seem no better in real terms so far. I won't budge past Win 7 , loaded 8 and 8.1 very briefly (removed very quickly ) and that Win 10 abomination is no way going on any machine of mine , laptop or PC. If all the new chips demand Win10 then I stay as is , I like a nice desktop , not something that looks like it should should be on a phone or a nursery wall. I paid out for a decent card and CPU for good speed and decent graphics , I've got those already and happy as is. Might change my case once in a while on a whim as that is an aesthetic thing and we all see something that sometimes takes our fancy but on innards at the moment I see nothing to make me, other than the SSD, to warrant spending money out. This ain't broke , don't fix it. lol.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
None, this year all the resources are necessary elsewhere, sadly. Otherwise it would be 1080Ti once it gets out.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
My PC is due for a major upgrade (it's something I do every two to three years), so I'm planning on a full upgrade, except for the case as my HAF EVO is still good enough for what I want.
Ryzen 8C/16T CPU
Gigabyte AM4 Gaming Mobo
16GB DDR4 2400
RX 480 8GB
replacing two 1TB HDDs with 750GB or 1TB SSDs
Liquid cooling for both the GPU and CPU (just AIO kits at the moment)
Two 32" Curved FreeSync monitors to replace the 29" Ultrawide and 24" LCD
Eventually, I'm planning on building a PC desk, similar to the ones from Lian Li, or the one that Linus from LinusTech built. I'll then change to a proper liquid cooling setup.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Motherboard, memory and CPU this year to replace 6 year old components. Holding off at the moment to see what AMD can offer
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I just recently (2017) upgraded my motherboard, CPU and RAM so I'm looking to replace my PSU, and I think mid-year I'll start looking for a GPU.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I need a new cheap laptop!
For my desktop, I'll wait for a competition offering an 8 core Zen + motherboard + ram as prize, And not win that one as usual! :surprised:
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
everything is less than 2 years old on my pc, so cant see wny thing get changed. hmm as long my mouse dont die :)
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Seems that a lot of people are waiting on AMD, which is a good sign IMHO. Just praying that they can deliver!
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Need a new case this year. The power switch is dodgy and non-replaceable, also the case has become prone to irritating buzzing and it is just getting a bit long in the tooth.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Nothing - its all working perfectly well at the moment, so upgrades will be the result of failure or exceeding capacity available.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
New graphic card for me, i guess it will be AMD Vega(my first ever AMD GPU) if the price/performance ratio will be good.
My 670 doesnt seems to be enought for new titles.
the rest, not unless some serious improvements appear.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
New machine.
-6800k
-Samsung 850 evo M.2. sata (I could go PCIE but not for what I need)
-Samsung 850 500Gb x4 in Raid 0 on an LSI 9265-8i card
-Samsung 850 Pro 256Gb
-32Gb ram
-Gigabyte x99-SLI board
-EVGA P2 750w
-980 GTX
Video editing rig. Current machine has the LSI card but is a 6700k. Fancy a change.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
For me it will be
-CPU Cooler
-Case
That's it for now but am waiting to see the performance of AMD's new CPU will be like/Price.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Not much as I recently swapped my Msi GTX660 for an EVGA GTX1070. SSD, memory, and CPU are all good enough. Monitors are big enough as well (2560x1080 and 1920x1080)
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Maybe CPU, motherboard, RAM. I get enticed by all the reviews and benchmarks telling me how much faster new stuff might be but actually I'm pretty satisfied with the way my PC performs.
If I do go down that route, I'll be looking for an 8 thread CPU as a minimum. Perhaps Ryzen but if it's not especially well priced - 2nd hand Intel route.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I'll be getting myself an AM4 motherboard with DDR4 RAM and a new processor. Also need to finally upgrade to an NVMe SSD.
I just hope the APUs AMD brings out allow crossfire with the RX480 I have, that would encourage me to get an APU rather than more CPU cores. I'm looking forward to the Ryzen launch, been waiting for it for a while now. Have had my FX8350 die on me along with my Asus Crosshair motherboard and spent a good £200 I didn't want to on replacements to keep my system going.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I'm using a Sabertooth Z77 and a 3770k. I'm looking to upgrade to a 7700k and a Maximus IX Hero. :)
My monitor is still 1080P, so my GTX 1060 will be fine for a while.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Going to be an expensive year for me, Then again it always is when it's my pc.
2x980ti's > 2x1080ti's or next 1xTitan X
512GB Samsung XP941 > 1TB Samsung 960 pro
27inch Asus ROG Swift 1440P 165hz IPS > 27inch Asus ROG Swift 4k 144hz IPS HDR
VR headset(maybe)
So far in 2017, Bought a new chair Thermaltake GTC500 Comfort(steel frame) to replace less than 2 year old office works garbage leather chair(wooden frame that warped)!
Quite impressed with "gaming" chair, Can't believe I am saying this!
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
New Monitor: Dell U2715H,
New Mobo:Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7,
New CPU: i7 6700K,
New GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1060 Winforce2 OC 6G
New Case: NZXT H440
This now sits alongside a beQuiet! Dark Power Pro 11 850W; Samsung 960 Pro 1Tb; Corsair CMK32GX4M4A2800C16 Vengeance LPX 32Gb; Logitech 2.1 Speaker System Z623; Headphones Sennheiser HD598SE and Noctua NH-U12S.
To pay for that lot I had to sell off my old stuff:-SM950 Pro 512Gb, Gigabyte GTX 1070 Gaming G1; Acer Predator XB321HK, ASRock Z170 Extreme 7+, Thermaltake Core V71.
Still thinking about selling the RAM and replacing it with just 16Gb of DDR 4, also have 4 x Samsung Evo 120Gb SSD. Going to put them into a RAID 10 array and see how they perform, if it'ss good then I just might sell the Samsung 960 Pro 1Tb. Oh, by the way, I'm going to offload a Creative Sound Blaster ZxR since the Creative Soundcard inbuilt in the motherboard is very good indeed.
I don't do gaming, just stream music and the like, went a little OTT initially, now have some of my hard earned cash back. I think the thing that I'm most pleased about is the NZXT H440, it's stylish, well built and extremely quiet.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Just need a video card. My 770GTX is getting rather old and outdated. 1070 is overpriced like crazy and I do not like the 3/6 GB and 192 bit 1060. Only option is the RX 480 MSi or Asus.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Graphics is my plan if Vega is any good and decently priced.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
New ryzen 6/12 or a 8/16 chip depending upon price with a nice ROG board and 16 gig of ddr 4 ram as I dont see the point as a gamer to having 32 gig.
Nice nvme ssd to run win10 off and a vega card to replace my aging 290x.
New EK water blocks unless the cpu block fits or can use an adapter kit for the new board (hopefully).
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Storage hard drives to 2x 8TB and a pair of 1080Tis and possibly a bigger PSU to cope!
-

I am the same as you , the new amd cpu , I have had the fx 8350 to long now.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Nothing planned.
6700K and a GTX 980 is enough - although I did briefly toy with the idea of a small form factor GTX 1070, but decided against it.
We need a new shed first.
I may swap out my 2TB drives for 4TB units at some point, but I have enough 2TBs for RAID10 so I don't think I'll need to do it this year.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Nothing planned but most of my recent upgrades have been opportunistic ones when I've spotted a deal.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Q1 will be a going from a FX8350 @ 4.85 on a Sabertooth 990FX R3.0 and 16GB DDR3 to a Ryzen 8/16, an Asus X370 board of equivalent level to my Sabertooth and 32GB of DDR4. Everything thing else will swap over with exception of my CPU waterblock (currently have a EK Supremacy).
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Will probably get a new GPU for the front-room PC at some point due to getting a Vive and a 4k TV! The 980 is pretty much bare-minimum for driving these.....
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I'd love to say a new Rizen CPU/MB/RAM/Case deal with a new monitor to go with my new 480 but with child 2.0 on the way in a couple of months I'm realistically going to say nothing...
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Mostly I need a latest generation GPU to replace my GTX 670, but I haven't decided should I wait for Vega or just go for a GTX1070/1080.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Build a Ryzen/Vega box, then decide on primary company platform for next 4 years.

Ditto, plus a second, bigger SSD. Everything else is pretty sound already.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I have athlon 5350 with 8gb ram, hdd 740Gb, internal radeon r3, I might go for the SSD but because my board has only 2 sata ports i might use the hdd and the DVD RW that i need for my job. This athlon cpu is more than capable for my needs. Playing Dota 2 fine, also casual player...
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Hmm. i5-4690k, 24GB ram, 256G 850 Pro, 2TB WD Black, GTX970, ol' 24" HP monitor... still handles even the most modern games with full pretties at 1920x1200, so, no upgrades probably until next year when 10 series cards drop in price and see if there are any modern monitors _worth_ getting.
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Honestly I just built a computer so I'm not really looking to upgrade it. But I'm very tempted to build a HTPC using old hardware, and I'm tempted to buy an i3-6100 and GTX 1050 Ti, but then I'll also need a new mobo and RAM
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I have splashed out on a GTX1070, three Crucial 525Gb SSDs and a Asrock H97m-ITX so that I can down size my gaming PC to something that will fit under me desk. I also bought a Nvidia Shield tablet which has been the biggest distraction as I play way to far into the early hours!
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
For me it would be newer GPU and NV.ME M.2 SSD
-
Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
I will be replacing everything in the PC itself apart from the GPU (still happy with my GTX 970). I am hoping that Ryzen will make the CPU market competitive again:
CPU
RAM
PSU
Mobo'
M2 SSD
Case
AIO CPU cooler

Re: QOTW: Which PC components are you looking to upgrade in 2017?
Already done, outgoing :- AMD (Piledriver) FX-6300 3.50GHz ; MSI 990XA-GD55 AMD990X (socket AM3+); Corsair Vengeance LPX 1600MHZ 8Gb (2 x 4Gb) CL9 DDR3 CML8GX3M2A1600C9; XFX Pro XXX Bronze Edition 750W semi modular PSU; 120Gb Samsung 840 EVO SSD; Asus VN248H IPS monitor; 24x LiteOn Internal DVD Re-Writer - IHAS124-14;
Antec 300 Mid Tower Case.
In:- i7 6700K CPU; Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7 LGA1151; Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1060 WF2 6GB ; Corsair CMK32GX4M4A2800C16 Vengeance LPX 32 GB (4x 8 GB) DDR4 2800 MHz CL16 XMP 2.0 ; BeQuiet 850 W Dark Pro 11 Modular PSU; Dell U2715H monitor; NZXT H440 ATX Mid Tower Case Matte Black/Red; Samsung Pro 960 NVMe M.2 1TB MZ-V6P1T0BW ( N.B. This is not actually installed as yet since I have 4 x 120Gb Samsung 840 EVO, operating in a RAID 10 array at the moment. Not bad performance either.
I don't do gaming, into music streaming, anything from Indie to Opera. I also need PC for my language studies. I did consider Kaby Lake CPU and Mobos but quite honestly didn't see any outstanding performers/reviews for the same amount of money and RGB lit mobos are not for me.
