That *is* terrifying.
And it'll put all the bicycle couriers out of business.

Re: Boston Dynamics Handle, bipedal wheeled robot, spins and leaps

Re: Boston Dynamics Handle, bipedal wheeled robot, spins and leaps
Incredible stuff. Once battery tech makes some more improvements I wouldn't be surprised if we see versions that have the ability to fly like a drone if required too :o

Re: Boston Dynamics Handle, bipedal wheeled robot, spins and leaps
In three years, Cyberdyne will become the largest supplier of military computer systems. All stealth bombers are upgraded with Cyberdyne computers, becoming fully unmanned. Afterwards, they fly with a perfect operational record. The Skynet Funding Bill is passed. The system goes online August 4th, 1997. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.
joking aside I am scared to be honest, i dont trust the governments of the world as it is.
Imagine the jobs this is going to take away from humans, and what do you do with millions of out of work people..?

In a perfect world it would happen, but i just feel we would be seen as hungry mouths to feed and more leisure time means more time for babys lol

So i am guessing robot maintenance will be the new jobs created by the wonder of robots and massively improving AI? imagine all the jobs they will eventually be able to do i.e. waiter, taxi, FLT, and train driver, cleaner, maybe even mechanic.
loads of different jobs gone forever, but i guess people would have to be paid to monitor them but eventually they would be able to monitor and repair each other.
Scary times (And exciting too i guess)

Re: Boston Dynamics Handle, bipedal wheeled robot, spins and leaps
Do we worry too much about technology, when all technology is just a tool that we've created that we use for good or evil (usually the whole spectrum in between simultaneously, somehow)? Rationally, we ought to be able to marvel at the progress of technology rather than fear it, and instead focus on promoting the good uses and protecting from the bad ones.
It seems inevitable that the more useful/powerful a technology is, the more dangerous the potential misuse is. Granted, the Boston Dynamics robots are well on their way to being worryingly useful!

A very good way to word it, i guess yes every tool can be used for beneficial or nefarious reasons take nuclear weapons as an example they have helped keep the peace and nuclear power plants power a lot off homes now.
But Hirashima, Nagasaki, Sellafield, Chernobyl and Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster show two sides of the coin.
and another tool is community forums take Hexus or Rage3d my two favourites, Hexus gives me intelligent grown up replies and Rage3d i get ganged up on by 40 year old children.. has happened on more than one occasion lol

Neat but gimmicks.
Without a miracle in battery technology these machines have very little actual real world use.
Battery tech is the hardest part that no-one has been able to solve.

I think even with the short battery life, I'm still going to lose a fight with one of these :(

Ah a utopian future where we can spend endless hours philosophising, painting, inventing and creating.
All while our No.9/Chappie/Wall-E robots clean up our rubbish, wipes my bottom, pours me a beer and make me a gourmet meal.
