    The Wife™

In all seriousness I do just use my phone, I have it hooked up to an in-car charger whilst using it though to avoid the battery draining.

I use my phone as GPS in the van every day - google maps work just fine for me.

I use the built in sat nav on my Volvo S60. As part of official services the car software and maps gets update every service. So the sat nav is pretty good. Plus the added benefit of iy intergrating nicely with the steering mounted controls means it's the most convenient too!

In built BMW sat nav which gets updated twice year by me, rather than giving a penny to the local stealer. It works well.

Google maps. It helps let me know which route to take to work (I have several options) and its usually pretty accurate on timings. Probably saves me a few hours a year from being stuck on slow/blocked roads. Not perfect but better than just using the same route every time and getting stuck once or twice a week.
    Trust

Moose don't need sat navs - the roads(and cars) bend to their singular will.

In car sat-nav, unless it's a hire car, in which case I find Here Maps to probably be the best one (especially when abroad).

Well I use a Garmin cause the satnav of my hyundai sucks a lot, like really really a lot. Gmaps is a good option but kinda useless if AT&t has no good coverage

    Standalone Garmin.

Depends on your criteria and oreferences. It's a bit like "best beer" .... what you like and what I like may be very different.

No. Not completely. It may come as a shock to many Hexus readers but not everybody has, or wants, a smartphone.

Last time I looked, a very mixed bag. Integration into car is good, but often, interface and facilities are .... not good, they can be expensive to update and you pay through the nose to get them, even if it's built-in to the car price. And, you can't remove it from the car.

Depends where you're coming from, philosophically. For me, yes, it does. Because, if I had a smartphone, the first thing I'd do is turn location services off, because I don't want loc data there for apps to snoop on. And SatNavs won't/can't run without it.

Also, in most respects , when I've been out with friends, I MUCH prefer my Garmin to friends with iPhones and Googlemaps, etc. I'd use the Garmin even if I had a smartphone.

    But that's just me.

Re: QOTW: Which sat-nav do you use in your car?

Inbuilt satnav (default on all new BMW's now I think which include updates for first 3 years) You can also get live traffic for this too (need to pay for though).

I also use my phone as well - normally use Waze since it's more "up to date" regarding anything happening on the road ahead of you as well as speed cameras (not that I speed....*whistle innocently*).

However I tend to use the BMW satnav more because satnav on phone seem to drain the battery even if it is charging (just drain more slowly) - it's power hungry (OnePlus One).

Phone, always found in-built satnavs to be rubbish and clunky

Re: QOTW: Which sat-nav do you use in your car?

Built in (Audi A1). Did not buy the car new so did not get lumbered with the £800 odd pounds it costs.
If i was to buy a new car i always said i would not pay the extortionate price of built in however having now used such then i now would consider it. The Audi system works just fine and its so much better than having one of those clamping devices and a cable to have to plug in.
I did enquire as to how much to update it at Audi (its a 2013 model) and it was around £180 which is a lot compared to buying a standalone unit but it was cheaper than i thought it would be though have not updated it yet.

I use Waze on my Android phone.

The phone also streams music to the stereo, so it works rather well. The music volumes fades out slightly during the directions before going back to full volume.
