Audiophiles, listen up (see what I did there?) XYZ Computing have a review of a rather clever looking ASIO compatible sound device which uses firewire. It's got lots of sockets and knobs, most of which I know nothing about, but I'm sure some of you will.
The FA-101 is also pricey, with the MSRP set at around $625 (although it is easily found for much less online). This is an investment, however, and if you are interested in recording anything on a regular basis, multi-track or not, the FA-101 is an incredible value for its power. Compared to the recording quality on an SB Audigy 2, the FA-101 has almost no noise or distortion; its outboard form factor keeps electrical noise and distortion low, unlike an internal PCI soundcard. I refuse to record digital audio with any other device.
