I'm now on my second PC with a VR-Ready GPU, and I still haven't bought a Vive or Oculus. I did, however, buy a Gear VR for my phone. I'm now looking at the new gen Gear VR and its motion controllers, and considering that purchase.

It seems to me that VR is only waiting for phones to go a step or two higher in capability. If the cost of VR is loaded towards the handset, which they would have bought anyway, it'll make the Gear VR (or similar) headset look like a steal. When VR finally breaks through into the mainstream, a PC is still going to cost hundreds and so will the headset, and the same applies to a PS4 with its VR. Even if the total cost involved is similar, the PC/PS transaction is going to look worse.

I think cost is a big factor. I had the DK2 and it was pricey but within reach of most people but the prices they are asking now are out of the impulse buy sector.

VR still costs too much and there isn't really that much content worth investing in it for. The day these things can become an every day appliance for remote conferencing etc. is the day they will truly shine.
