GPU @ £230 (GTX 970)inside PC, £350 ish monitor most expensive outside.
Asus Poseidon 980ti, courtesy of my boss
inside pc... cpu and gpu, both around the same cost
part of my setup... that would be the wacom 4xl
and the Acer Predator 32" 4K
also from The Boss
This is simply the all time most expensive stuff I ve ever got.
The whole thing, because after 20 years I decided to make a complete jump from desktop to laptop. Very much worth it, but for the amount I spent it ought to be! Proper desktop CPU, superfast M.2 SSD, GTX 1070, 4k screen.
SAPPHIRE NITRO R9 390X Tri-X £338 just beat i7-5820K £330 both from Scan.
Possibly a topic more complex than the original question
My PC tower:
GPU first ~£250 last component (6950 2GB) lasted 5years. £250 again for the replacement (R9 390 8GB) hoping for a similar lifespan, hence overkill RAM config as before.
CPU second, ~4year old AMD FX8120 (~£150 i think) still going
Monitor Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP ~8years old, (actually had to google this one) ~£450 i think (so long ago i'm not sure), still a good monitor today
If you include other stuff... My NAS unit cost a great deal (Thecus N0503, with 3x3TB HDDs at present), can't see it going till either it dies or the SATA standard does. Backbone of my mini home LAN

GTX 690 that I got 5 years ago, cost a fortune, but still going strong, might not be able to play everything in ultra, but games still look good to me in 1440
My monitor - LG34UM-88 - 34in, freesync, ips, not curved, 3440x1440 - $900aud 3 months ago.
Inside the PC would be the graphics card. That puppy cost me £180, and at what I knew was going to be a bad time to buy as the RX series wasn't far off, but components seldom fail at a good time so a replacement for the old GTX460 had to be made.
Outside the PC, the monitor cost me £450, about as much as the entire contents of the system box. I'm a cheapskate, but you can't skimp on the pixels.
my evga gtx 1070, and it has to last me at least 3 years.
The CPU. I mix and match old and new parts - the processor was new, though the GPU would have been the most expensive if I'd bought that fresh.
CPU.... Not intending to upgrade my 5960X for a few years.

My Sapphire R9 295X2 OC when AMD reduced the price to £750, should have waited cause they then reduced it to £500!
