I like how the Scotland-Wales route gives the whole of Wales a wide berth and only makes the short hop from Bristol to Cardiff right at the end.
Never going to happen.
Well the only other place in Wales that might be worth while is Swansea.
But I don't see this happening purely from planning. Building a big floating pipeline across the British countryside? Never gonna happen.
I can't really see the commercial point in a superfast train that only carries cargo for the first few years. Who'd want to pay that much for transport in an hour when you could courier it for next day delivery instead?
Another lab only concept product like the Surface tables ?

Because the British NIMBYs are going to embrace a pair of metal tubes going through the countryside near their houses. Although the eastern route they've picked is more viable, if they build it over the M11, A14, etc.
OTOH maybe they'll finish this before HS2, which would be a hoot.
(note: it's not going to happen)
