In my opinion emojis have absolutely *no* place in Unicode. I have no idea why the Unicode Consortium purposely aims to waste space on stuff like this.

At least there will be consistency between systems with them in unicode, shuffled safely away in 4-byte encodings.

It's necessary so they're part of a universal text standard that are represented uniformly across applications. As silly as emojis are, they're part and parcel of texting, have been for some time, and it's more efficient to encode them in unicode than arbitrary linking to images that has to be processed as rich text. Besides, unicode has plenty of space for flippant characters.

What's your issue with Emojis? They're fun and add a bit of life to messages

I must use Emojis at least 100 times a day, probably more.
