Definitely wanting to know the TDPs when they finally get official confirmation. Not that I'll ever be able to afford $1000 on a processor, but you can always hope.

If the UK doesn't get shafted on pricing, threadripper is actually really good value for the performance in my opinion based on that video.

Boost clock has been confirmed as 4.0GHz for both parts, while base clock is set to 3.4GHz for Threadripper 1950X
Woah woah woah woah woah. That's the 1700X base clock. A higher boost clock. Twice the cores/threads. In one socket.
It's not going to beat the i7 7900k in MT Cinebench -it's going to massacre it. We should be looking at ~ 3000 in Cinebench. The i7 gets 2187. Of course, the single thread performance is going to be identical to the 1800X, so it's till going to be well behind there, but there are so many use cases for that many threads. Can't wait to see the lower TDP parts now - wonder how little power you need to push 16 cores at 3GHz.... :O_o1:

AT has some more details:

TDP is apparently 180W.
Edit!!
Also there is support for upto 2933MHZ DDR4 too.

The Threadripper 1950X (16c/32t) is shown as breaking 3k cinebench in the video (and it could go higher yet with more driver optimisations etc), the lower one was beating the 10/20 core intel 2400 to 2100 although to me the images look different ratios in that video which might have had a small impact too.
Also if the rumoured 180W TDP is real that is rather high for something you'd likely leave on full usage for large amounts of time.
Re: AMD Ryzen Threadripper to arrive 'early August' priced from $799
Now AMD just have to lob a vega gpu die and a couple of memory stacks on there and call it an apu so someone can stick it in a laptop ;) :D

3000 for the 1950X and 2400 for the 1920X are actually the kind of scores I'd expect based on Ryzen 5/7 scores. Scaling should be pretty close to perfect for MCM CPUs.

180W TDP sounds about right for two 1700X stuck together, which is what it basically is. There's two considerations about that from a workstation point of view:
1) it's not much higher than a high end Xeon (which tend to hover around the 140W mark), and it's lower than a 2P Xeon system would manage combined, which is the kind of system you'd be looking at replacing with a single 16C/32T chip.
2) TDP != actual power draw. That said, the 1700X draws almost exactly 90W more at CPU-load than at idle, so maybe at full chat it will hit 180W.
In other words, I don't think the TDP will be too much of an issue for the kind of people who'll buy this chip, and if it is I anticipate there being 130W TDP versions runnning in the 3.2GHz base 3.7GHz boost region to cater to that market anyway.
One thing I do find interesting is the numbering though. There's not much room for more SKUs, unless they're going to use the 1800 series for Threadripper as well as Ryzen...

Next iterations (ie gen2) are pretty simple, they can just change the '1' at the start to a '2' but you're right about running out of numbers for gen1 stuff.

It wouldn't surprise me if they don't want to go much lower.
Firstly Zen production sounds like it is pretty reliable, so charging less for two chips that could instead make two 1500X/1600X/half an Epyc likely doesn't make too much sense - at least until AMD makes that native quad core Zen, if they ever do.
Secondly, impressive though Infinity Fabric sounds it is still two chips bolted together and that will have a cost - lower threads and clocks might not make much sense performance wise vs AM4.

Well bye Intel, don't want to keep paying their obscene prices though am on the X99 currently

I did wonder about the possibility of an 8 core, which would give people the option of platform. The Ryzen 5 1500X has a 65W TDP, so I reckon they could drop an 8 core threadripper at ~ 1800X speeds in a ~ 130W TDP. It would probably be a bit more expensive than an 1800X, but that'd still be a bigger profit margin than selling two 1500X, and it'd be an entry level processor for the platform (which has a lot of advantages over Ryzen/AM4, including more memory channels and PCIe lanes). But there's not many model numbers available below the 1920X, so perhaps not...

Intel did that with Skylake-X, they've been absolutely destroyed by tech and business websites alike for doing so as it just doesn't make sense from the consumer's standpoint.

If you mean the quad core, dual channel memory, 16 PCIe lane abominations that are the i7 7740k and i5 7640k, they're a completely different beast - they're consumer silicon shoehorned onto the enthusiast platform but are incapable of providing most of the features that make the enthusiast platform attractive.
8 core threadripper would be a full threadripper - 2 dies, each with 4 active cores. That means it would retain the quad channel memory and 64 PCIe lanes common to the platform. The 1800X already consumes 50W more than the 1500X, so the power consumption would actually be pretty similar; the performance would be pretty similar; they could be priced very close to each other (the 1500X costs less than half an 1800X, so AMD would make more profit selling those two dies as an 8 core threadripper); and the consumer gets more choice and a lower entry price into the quad-channel/64 lane platform. There's really no downside.
Re: AMD Ryzen Threadripper to arrive 'early August' priced from $799
I agree with Jim, it is not the hamstrung skylake-X that i can only conclude was pitched at parting the gullible/vain/impulsive with their money. Anyone who did any research would have either gone standard skylake or stumped up more for the full-fat X series CPUs. I also agree that an 8 threadripper would be a most attractive proposition. I thought they were doing one, or is that just on standard Ryzen?

There's been all sorts of rumours about Threadripper SKUs, but none that I was particularly convinced by. I hope there's an 8 core (1900X maybe?) at 130W, along with lower clocked 12 and 16 core versions at the same TDP.
If they're planning an 8 core they might be holding it off in the hope that they'll get more early adopters on the 12 and 16 core variants (much like they've held back the Ryzen 3 processors). Makes sense I suppose - people who'd consider a $599 8 core CPU to get the quad memory/64 lanes miught be persuaded to stretch up to a $799 12 core part.
