Wonder if they struck a deal with AMD to provide this and it's a Ryzen+Vega APU...?
Re: Ataribox images provide first clear look at the console design
It looks a lot like a Shield redesign.

It's a shame the Atari Logo on the right isn't matches by an Infogrames logo on the left, that would really be staying true to their heritage.

AMD Ryzen 5 four core with Polaris 570 level graphics

Sounds like they are still in the dreaming idealistic stage of development. If they were serious, then they would be getting custom silicon made which nails down the specs pretty early on.
I'm guessing once the deadlines start to loom they will slap together a Steambox with a new branding layer on top :D

Isn't Steambox firmly dead. It died before it even started so it's far from cool to mention it.

Apparently sales are still ticking along despite the platform missing all its promises and Linux games never really materialising (and those that did having a slow DirectX translation layer hold them back). Funny old world eh.
Still, with the open source AMD drivers now including a usable Vulkan implementation it would be by far the cheapest & easiest starting point for a new development ecosystem to just tell devs to build for AMD Vulkan on Linux. Then you can use an off the shelf APU soldered on a custom motherboard to keep costs down.

Very intriguing...but yeah it does seem like a Steam box as they did mention using standard PC parts somewhere
