Now they just need to bring back access to the old Calculator and Windows Photo Viewer...

or not, no need to go backwards.
Re: MS Paint "isn't going anywhere"
Great! Now I don't have to learn a new program for all my dank memes.

Replacing more featured applications with Metro style more limited versions was a step backwards IMHO. Especially when they didn't actually save space and remove Windows Photo Viewer, they just disabled it to push people to embrace Metro and the Windows Store.
Re: MS Paint "isn't going anywhere"
I'll be fine with the new calculator when it focuses on the input box when it starts. I'm used to jabbing the shortcut key on my keyboard, and then start typing numbers. Now I've got to fiddle with focus. Feels like Linux.
Re: MS Paint "isn't going anywhere"
I don't care what it's called, so long as it's free and I can use it to do basic line drawings, photo tweaking, picture cutting and simple stuff like that...

I doubt it can be that good!

I haven't tried Paint 3D yet, but if it does everything that Paint does, I don't mind Paint getting replaced by it. Frankly most of what I do with Paint is paste images and crop them.

Check out Jim'll paint it on facebook for a good example of someone using paint.

Don't get me wrong, I love Linux - but X UIs always played second fiddle to MS Windows when it came to consistency and the detail. I feel that might have changed around Windows 8.

Gnome certainly took a dive with Gnome 3 - trying to copy Win 8. I use xfce now. But so many guis to choose from. Funnily enough, I never really got on with KDE.

I've installed the old windows photo viewer in windows 10 purely because it gives me more control over the slideshow speed... something as simple as that is missing from the modern app.
I did miss the old windows calc for one simple reason...it wouldn't let me type as soon as it loads after I press the keyboard shortcut. That's been fixed now so for my use the new one is ok although it still has a few 'quirks' when working with previous calulations.

I was good with KDE back in the KDE3 days. They beat Gnome to the punch of shooting themselves in the foot.

Bring back the office assistant next!

This made the mainstream news somehow
