I have gotten rid of mechanical HDD's altogether from my pc although I do have a external drive for back-ups but it's only plugged in when needed. I have a SK Hynix SL301 250GB SSD for Windows and a few other programs and a Sandisk Ultra II 960GB SSD for my Steam games. I got them both when they were on offer early last year and paid less than £190 for both of them brand new. I guess the next time I do a platform upgrade it will include a M2 drive or whatever is out by then.
480GB SSD Sandisk Ultra II
512GB SSD Sandisk X300
2 x 1TB HD WD Black
DVD Drive
1x 1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD
1x 10TB WD Gold HDD
Recently upgraded previous storage solution and got a great deal on the 10TB drive, which has a lovely 5-year warranty and is helium-filled.
1 512GB SSD
2 Mobile Racks, and an array of disks in caddies to plug in, according to my current need.
Most commen used disks in my racks are 2x 3TB wd red, where i have backup of OS, and backup of photos and other data.
That said, for most part, the two racks arent powered on. Been happily using this type of setup in my past 3? PC's, so roughly 15+ years.
128gb SATA SSD as an OS/Apps drive
256gb SATA SSD for GOG/Origin/other games
512gb SATA SSD for Steam games
All the spinning rust has been migrated to my server, there's about 3tb in there in 500gb drives. Bit the bullet to buy the 512gb SSD as the final HDD was annoying me by making the whole OS pause every time I started Windows Explorer or some sort of file dialog prompt.
One 256GB SSD and 3 × 4TB HDDs in my main machine with three more SATA ports spare. There are 2 × 2TB HDDs in its older brother. There's also a 12TB external which I got as an external because, for reasons that I cannot fathom, it was cheaper than buying the bare drive. :-)
Main PC
256gb SSD boot
2x2tb HDs in raid 0 + 64gb ssd cache (Games and none important storage)
2x2tb HDs in raid 0 (Business)
+3tb eternal usb3 drive for backups (Business)
HTPC
128gb SSD boot
4tb HD
+1.5tb external (backup of photos etc)
Laptop
256gb SSD boot
1tb HD storage (in place of optical drive which is now in a caddy).
Netbook
256gb SSD
2nd PC
2x500gb in raid 0 + 32gb SSD cache
DVD duplicator
1tb HD
I do have some spare room but nothing is overkill.
1 x 128 GB ssd and 2 x 3TB SATA HDD in my main pc
2 x 128 GB SSD and 4 x 4 TB SATA HDD and 1 x 2 TV SAta HDD in my 2nd unit.
Synology NAS has 5 x 4TB SATA HDD units. ( will replace those with 6TB ones as needed )
1x256 SSD

1x4TB
1x6TB
